This week we had our Military Working Dog Leaders Course (MWDLC), which is a course that provides a baseline to MP senior leaders as it pertains to MWD and Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) courses.

Our leaders were able to walk our company footprint, witness handlers course training, TMCI training and tour our MWD facilities.

Lastly, we concluded the course with an informative HRC Brief and Program Manger Brief.

This morning, Class 46 conducted our traditional Memorial Run. During this event, our Soldiers carried a ten-pound ammo can, representing the weight of our beloved fallen Soldiers.

While we understand that this weight can never represent the burden held by their loved ones, it gives us the opportunity to pay homage to our fallen Military Working Dog Handlers and their dedicated Working Dog.

At the monument, the Dogs of War read the biographies of each of our fallen handlers and and working dogs who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Join Delta Company tomorrow at 0330 to honor SPC Brandon Steffey with a Hero Workout.

Spc. Brandon K. Steffey, 23, of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, died Oct. 25, 2009 in Laghman province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 178th and 226th Military Police Detachments, 89th Military Police Brigade, III Corps, Fort Hood, Texas.

"Brandon was a very kind and considerate person," said John Sherry, a principal at Sault Area High School in Steffey's hometown of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich. "A gentle giant with a very good sense of humor."

Sherry said Steffey played football at his school and then transferred to play baseball at Brimley High School, where he graduated in 2005.

Steffey's uncle, Jim Worsham, said Steffey's decision to join the Army followed a family tradition of military service.

"He was so proud of what he was doing during his deployment," his wife, Andrea, said, adding that he also was a doting father to his young daughter.

This morning Soldiers of MWDHC Class 39, 40, and 46 climbed the bleachers as a heartfelt tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives in the World Trade Center towers on 9/11.

This tragic day claimed nearly 3,000 lives in the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93.

While a significant number of our trainees were too young or not yet born during that day, it's important to recognize that they may not have personal memories of the events. However, we share a deep and enduring commitment to never forget the terror attacks that profoundly impacted our nation and the world.
