Lafayette Paddle Club

First Lafayette Paddle Club meeting of ‘24 is Tuesday, 1-9-24 at 5:30. Meeting at The Outpost building behind Pack And Paddle. New members are always welcome. Come check us out.

Join in on the annual “Light up Your boat Christmas Paddle” on the Vermilion Saturday, Dec. 9th. We will meet up at the Beaver park boat launch around 4 to decorate our boats and then shuttle vehicles to the Camellia bridge floating dock at the end of Cambridge Dr. It’s about 5 mile paddle and should start around 6. At the takeout we will have a small after party with snacks. Feel free to contribute. This paddle is open to anyone with a canoe, kayak or sup. Battery operated lights can be found at Target, Walmart and Lowe’s. Please feel free to invite friends and family, the more the merrier. Bad weather could cause us to reschedule or cancel this event. We will discuss recent past trips, and plan upcoming new trips for this Fall & Winter. Let us know what waterways you want to paddle on. Pack and Paddle store will be open til 6 pm, so you can check out what kayaks & canoes, paddling gear, clothes, shoes, camping gear, etc., that they have available. You can also look for Christmas gifts and gift cards. 😊

Pics from LPC paddle trip at Chicot Lake north end, Sat morning Aug 5, 2023. We had (11) paddlers. On the water for about 3 to 3-1/2 hrs. Thankful for lots of shade, and the water weeds were not too bad. At the end of the trip, it was very hot when loading up our boats and tie-down on vehicles just before lunch.

Some pics from LPC Sat morning (July 8th) paddle trip by Catahoula, LA. We had ten paddlers in kayaks/canoes. Trip distance was about 3 miles, except for part of the group paddled a bit further exploring a small waterway that went up into the woods. It was nice paddling in the shade by the trees with a light breeze. An alligator or two were spotted, and the bird activity was surprisingly good. Five Swallow-tailed Kites were seen circling & soaring above the tree tops, plus a flock of about 10 to 12 large Wood Storks made a brief appearance. Also observed was a Roseate Spoonbill, dozens of White Ibis, Little Blue Herons, Great Egret, a couple hawks, and more. We were going to check out a few more of the dead-end waterways that go into the woods, but the winds picked up and scattered storms started moving in, so we headed back to boat ramp a bit earlier than planned. We finished loading up before the rain hit, so that was good. Part of the group ate lunch at The St. John restaurant in St. Martinville before heading home. Nice little summertime paddle trip.

Pics from Sun morning June 25, 2023, at Chicot State Park. One of Louisiana's best state parks. Did not see any alligators today. Maybe they are out more at night-time during summer.

Due to scheduling conflicts & Valentines Day, The LPC February monthly meeting will be held on TUESDAY FEBRUARY 7 – Pack & Paddle Outpost. Social from 5:30pm to 6:00pm. Meeting from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.

The monthly mtg for LPC for Jan will be Tue Jan 10th at the Pack and Paddle Outpost Bldg (behind P&P). Social time from 5:30 to 6 pm. Mtg starts at 6 pm. Note: P&P store is open til 6 pm, so feel free to check out kayaks inside on display and all other gear they have in stock.
Let us know where you want to paddle this Winter/Spring. We will review recent past trips, and plan some new trips. Visitors are welcome to attend mtg. Feel free to bring food and snacks to share with others. Bring cash or check to pay club dues for year 2023. $20 I believe.
