Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 19, the Lafayette City Council votes whether or not to fund a planning study that allows for public input in the planning of a new performing arts center. Please call the Council office--337-291-8800--Monday, December 19 and Tuesday, December 20 and state whether you are for or against funding the study. Read on, please.
If you want a voice in the planning--including the location--of a new performing arts center, there must be a study that allows public input.
A state capital outlay of $1,000,000 was granted to Lafayette Consolidated Government to pay studies for this project. Yes, these are tax dollars, but they are STATE tax dollars that are designated specifically to pay for the necessary studies.
Yes, LEDA commissioned a FEASIBILITY study that examined several sites. These sites were RANDOMLY identified by individuals who were asked to attend gatherings. No ideas were vetted based on size, ingress/egress, economic development potential, etc.

The position is responsible for aiding and advising clients in the preparation of the building before events, with hospitality services during events, and moving out after events. The work requires constant contact with the public and working irregular work schedules. Bachelor's degree in Management, Public Relations, Theater, Hospitality Management, or related field and experience in the hospitality industry or managing a public facility; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
