What a wonder the body is - constant breathing through the ANS (Autonomic Nervous System) keeps us alive.
As humans we can alter these patterns for optimal physiological states within the Nervous System. We can choose to exhale longer and slower (creates a Parasympathetic response - the rest, digest, relax, reduce anviousness state.
Or, we can harness our breath through longer connected breathing, inhales or conversely working with CO2 tolerance exercises to achieve state changes.

I had this conversation with someone today - how adding in breathing components can be a gateway to access meditation, mindfulness & Interoception (a felt sense of what is going on inside your body).
It’s not easy to sit still at times - to be truly present in the moment - but it is a way to recharge & refresh.
🌬️ But - breath IS movement - with each inhale & exhale we gently stimulate our organs increasing circulation & natural cleansing. When we dive deeper into abdominal breathing and guided practices, we can begin to release and trust in our body. It is truly the exhale 😮💨 the letting go that enables us to begin again and take the next inhale.

I have been breathing with Our Breath Collective since Nov. 2019 - through the death of my Dad, through pandemic financial set-backs & through a chaotic heart break with someone who I thought loved me. The medicine and gold here cannot be understated - breath is medicine and we can harness that to move through challenges and hardships - I am a witness.
My heart space is full and I am posting this to remind myself what I’ve transcended and where I want to go in the near future.
I’ll be stepping into teaching again and blending offerings to support the Lymphatics with Breath Support - an integral driver for this system.
Deep breathing moves all of the abdominal organs providing motility (gentle stimulation & movement of our organs) and lymph flow throughout. The thoracic duct moves fluid from the lower extremities through the diaphragm and lymph channels and back into the cardiovascular system - cleansed and detoxed and increases immune function.
Deep breathing, exercise, swimming, yoga all get the lymph flowing - in addition to bodywork.

Tending to your breath - simple and
powerful practices can help to regulate your Nervous System to offset stress.
Down shifting into a more Parasympathetic State - relax, rest, digest, and to feel safe in your body - can be achieved through extended, lengthened exhales.
When activated, it slows our heart and breathing rates, lowers blood pressure and promotes digestion. We enter a state of relaxation and this breeds recovery. The more time we spend in the PSNS state, the healthier we are.
Think of this as the brake.
The Sympathetic State is the gas pedal, tapping into this state provides us with a burst of energy to fight, flight, or for strenuous activity - it has a place and a time that our bodies also need.
How do you apply the brakes when handling challenges & obstacles ?
My go to is breath regulation - immediate and always available to us. The breath is the bridge to the body and the brain 🧠 quicker than any drugs or hormones to shift our state.
