Flossing your teeth while wearing braces can be a little tricky. You need to use a special “threader floss” with a stiff end, or regular floss combined with a separate plastic floss threader, that allows you to thread the floss between your brackets.

Maggie Laborde Miller, DDS, MS, has joined Crawford Orthodontics in Lake Charles and will be practicing with Dr. Craig Crawford.

Dr. Miller is from Lake Charles and is a graduate of St. Louis High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans, where she was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society.

After practicing general dentistry for two years, Dr. Miller completed her orthodontics residency at LSU New Orleans and began her career as an orthodontist. Over the past two years, she has worked in private practice in New Orleans and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Crawford Orthodontics offers comprehensive orthodontic care for patients of all ages. The office is located at 701 W. College Street in Lake Charles.

Gum is a no-no for patients with braces. Gum can easily catch on wires and brackets and if that bracket or wire gets damaged, you must come in to have it fixed.

May is Better Speech Month. Your teeth have a big impact on speaking and pronunciation. You might be surprised at how straight teeth can improve your speech patterns. Both people with and without speech issues find real difference after they have undergone orthodontic treatment.
