FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
December 5, 2019
WAUKEGAN, IL — Earlier today, after nearly four decades in county government, Lake County Recorder of Deeds Mary Ellen Vanderventer publicly announced her support for Lake County Republican Recorder of Deeds Candidate Emilia Czyszczon’s initiative to consolidate the Lake County Recorder of Deeds’ office into the Lake County Clerk’s office. Vanderventer made her comments in support of consolidation at a meeting of the Finance Committee of the Lake County Board.
Czyszczon commented that, “over the last four months I have been gathering petition signatures from families throughout Lake County who believe we need to place a binding referendum on the ballot next year to consolidate these two offices. As a result, I am very pleased to see that, after nearly four decades of taxpayer funded salaries, Mary Ellen has decided to join my efforts to consolidate these offices to help reduce the property tax burden on Lake County residents.”
In order to place a binding referendum question on the ballot, voters in Lake County must submit over 25,000 petition signatures to the Lake County Clerk. Any resident of Lake County can help circulate consolidation petitions by downloading them from the Lake County Republican website at www.lakecountyrepublicans.com.
Czyszczon noted that “given Mary Ellen’s recent support for my initiative, I am going to personally drop off petition sheets at her office so she has an ample opportunity to put her words into actions and help me reach our signature goal. I trust that Mary Ellen will work to secure half the petition signatures needed to place this consolidation question on the ballot.”

Re: Lake County Republican Party Announces 2020 Primary Endorsements
GRAYSLAKE – The 29-Member Executive Committee of the Lake County Republican Central Committee (“LCRCC”) met at Lake County Republican Party Headquarters in Grayslake, Lake County, Illinois, on Saturday, November 2, 2019. At this meeting, the LCRCC interviewed candidates seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for elective office on the March 17, 2020 Republican Primary Election Ballot. In announcing the endorsements, Lake County Republican Party Chairman Mark Shaw said, “I want to thank all of the candidates who participated in this endorsement process for their devotion to our country and to our party. The Lake County Republican Party must take a strong stand now to promote our strongest candidates in the upcoming, primary election. In so doing, together, we can get a head start in our united fight to defeat the increasingly radical candidates and elected officials in the Democratic Party who are stepping to the forefront because of the myriad of ethical distractions facing Illinois State Democratic Party Chairman Michael Madigan and his local partner, Lake County Democratic Party Chairman Terry Link.”
Shaw added, “If what we read in the headlines every day is even close to being accurate, the intense pressure of law enforcement public corruption investigations zeroing in on the activities of Madigan and Link has loosened their grip on the traditional Democratic Party slating process. While the daily activities of the FBI are distracting Madigan and Link, the Democratic candidates taking over the Democratic Party are more closely aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America (“DSA”) than with Madigan or Link.”
“Despite all of the corruption surrounding the Democrats, our endorsed candidates know they are in for a fight, in which they are prepared to engage on behalf of the people of this great country, and the Lake County Republican Party is prepared to provide them with the tools necessary to win that fight before and after the March 17, 2020 Republican Primary Election”, promised Shaw.

RIP, Susan Loving Gravenhorst
She served as the State Central Republican Committeewoman for Illinois’ 10th Congressional District 1982-1998 and was also a member of the Lake County Republican Federation Board of Governors 1968-1984.
In 1984 she decided to combine her interests in (i) education, (ii) the University of Illinois and (iii) politics by running un-slated – then unheard of – as a Republican candidate for the University’s Board of Trustees. She prevailed in both the primary and the general election. And was the first Republican woman to win statewide office in Illinois- paving the way for Corrine Wood, Judy Baar Topika and many others. She was re-elected in 1990 and, after the Board shifted from elective to appointive, was appointed to a third term by Governor Jim Edgar in 1996. She served for eighteen years. In 1998, she was elected Chairman of the University Board and, consequently, her signature is on the diplomas of thousands of students who graduated during the 1998-2000 timeframe.
