We are back in action after having our page suspended since April for no apparent reason, and just in time to celebrate the anniversary of the first women’s rights convention! On this day in 1848, at the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, New York, a woman’s rights convention—the first ever held in the United States—convened with almost 200 women in attendance. The convention was organized by Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, two abolitionists who met at the 1840 World Anti-Slavery Convention in London. As women, Mott and Stanton were barred from the convention floor, and the common indignation that this aroused in both of them was the impetus for their founding of the women’s rights movement in the United States.

Residents may vote either yes or no on the whole slate of 7 candidates. It is all or none. Residents may not vote for/against individuals. This election is being held at Gorton Community Center. Voting is your power to decide the type of future you want to build and the kind of community we want for everyone.

If you have not yet voted:
You can register to vote in person in Illinois up until the polls close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.
You can still choose to vote in person if you have a mail-in ballot; just bring it with you if you have it.
If you still have a mail-in ballot, deliver it to a drop box or in person at your polling location or the office of your election authority. If you do need to mail it, make sure it's postmarked on March 19 (not just in a mailbox).
Know your rights when you go to the polls. If you experience any problems, call the voter protection hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE (find more numbers).

Have you voted yet? Convenience is close by! You can vote now at Lake Forest City Hall, an Early Voting site for all Lake County voters. Voting there is possible Monday, March 4 through Saturday, March 16, 2024. If you aren't already registered to vote, but are eligible, registration is available before you vote.

Sunday: Closed

The Lake County Clerk’s Office is pleased to announce that early voting for the upcoming General Primary Election will be available county-wide starting next Monday, March 4th. Today is Rosa Parks Birthday 🎂!

A fearless advocate for voting rights and women’s rights, Dr. Turner devoted her life’s work to impacting meaningful changes in the lives of voters across the nation. As the 20th president of the 103-year-old voting rights organization, Dr. Turner played a pivotal role in fighting for a more fair and representative union, while uplifting racial equity in the League’s mission work. We will miss her leadership.

It is with profound sadness that the League of Women Voters announces the passing of our esteemed president, Dr. Deborah Ann Turner, who passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from complications from a pulmonary embolism.

The League of Women Voters staff, board, and Leagues from across the country mourn this loss, and our thoughts are with Dr. Turner’s family during this difficult time. We are committed to honoring her legacy by continuing to uphold our values to empower voters and build a stronger, more inclusive democracy.
