Jack's Metal Yard Art
Fun and whimsical metal yard art and sculptures.
Taken directly from Pinterest. Not something I normally attempt but I have about 20 pickheads gathering moss so why not
Doorknobs for heads, plier handles for arms
I need a good name, any ideas?
Couple of faces
Hound Dog
I’m calling this “3CPO The Early Years”
Electric fuse box, wrenches for arms, camshafts for legs and feet. The head is some type of conduit that with a little work made a perfect face and I left the wires in it for hair. Last picture is spray painted chrome but I am going to grind on it some and then rust it to make it look down-on-it’s-luck
“Garden Queen” Fire extinguisher body, pressure tank head, bolt cutter legs, barbecue ring arms. The crown is an upside plant stand. Garden fork on rebar for her sceptre and good old shoemaker forms for her feet. I’m contemplating making a royal gown out of metal leaves
Dan D. Lion. Scrap, metal gear. Cut the leaves with an plasma cutter
Made a green woman to go with the green man
Metal Green Man
Didn’t turn out as I’d hoped it would but still fun. Leaves were recycled from various Goodwill pieces.
Aged, hippie snowman. Actually had some coal around for the eyes
Early stages. Needs to be cleaned up then I’m painting it
Typewriter carriage and some scrap
Plow disc, whire cup and rebar
Christmas tree stand, auger, plow disc and a cement bath. The frog came out of an old bird bath. It originally was upright but I thought it’d make a good perch for birds if it was lying down
Plow disc, wire wheel and scrap.
Posted my dustpan frog a couple days ago. I usually do not paint my yard art but made an exception. Looks much better in my opinion
“Dusty” the frog. Made from an old dustpan, horseshoes and scrap
“C(hristmas) Turtle. Made from a Christmas tree stand. Hoping it will look better once it rusts out
First two pictures are done. Goofy shovel faces. The last one is just me spitballing. Found some wings at habitat for humanity and just goofing with them. Kinda like it. What do you think?
Reworked my “the scream” piece. Before his hands were down by his mouth and it looked more like he was hollering than screaming😜. Adjusted them up and it looks more existential🤔🤣
What better way to beat 95 degree heat by welding outside?😂😁🤔🥵
Someone gave me the rocker part of an old rocking horse so I mounted the dog I had previously welded to it
Welded from gas cylinder cap, square stock, hand scythes and some metal arms from some type of machinery for the legs
Sheep? Dog?? No it’s sheepdog!!!
Honestly started out as a dog and kinda morphed into a sheep. Reminds me of Shaun from Wallace and Grommet.
Shovel for the face, hand scythes for ears, square stock for the body, lug wrench for the feet and wood stove handle for the tail
This started with the hands that I made about three years ago. Sat around unused
Head is an fireplace ash shovel, tongs for the body miscellaneous bits for the face
Going to paint the glasses black to look like sunglasses
Tractor hood, rake and scrap.
Inspired by somebody in one of the groups I follow.
East of Nashville maybe
Propane tank, fan blades and scrap for the eyeballs
It would make a unique planter
I had two ten-tine pitchforks that I had cut off the tines for another project. Scrap wheels and nuts make the eyes
The one on the left I call “startled moose”😂😂 He kinda looks like his eyes are bugged out. That one will hang and I think I’m putting rebar in the wood handle of the other and make it a free standing piece
I’ve come up with a second version that I think works better. Found a water pump cover that not only adds color it fills the frame better
“The Scream”. Based on a painting by Edward Munch. Made from found items
My niece named it “The Rusty Scream”
A while back I made a grim reaper out of a cut down pickaxe. A neighbors shed burnt down and she gave me two pickaxes and asked if I would make her a “garden reaper”
I have one a flower and the other has a cast iron decorative table fork that I cut and ground down to a passable resemblance of a four prong pitchfork
All I can say is that John Deere Green is really green😂
My chunky little ballerina😂.
My initial idea was to display the glass float. Once I was done I thought it looked a bit spare. My sister GardenBling creates cement birdbaths and kindly gave me one to try. I like the birdbath look better
The pole is a yellow cedar telephone pole that I spent about two hours sanding, gluing and sealing. I like the rustic look.
UPDATE. I found the candleholder at an estate sale and I had the glass orb. Adds some funk to it for sure
Barbecue tong handles for glasses, chain from farm implement for hair/curlers, dog chains for hair. The one on the left was inspired by the Pepperpots from Monty Python
