Discovering Yourself and God Through Spiritual Care Contemplative Pastor and Spiritual Director
❣️
This is a wonderful post that highlights the work of mentoring (which is true spiritual direction)
❤️ "Of course, there are many bosses, ministers, coaches, and teachers who will happily tell younger people how to “fix” their problems, so they can be “normal” again, but a true mentor guides people into their problems and through them. It feels a bit messy and wild, but also wonderful in some way. A wise mentor leads someone to their own center and to the Center." (Richard Rohr, CAC)
A Helpful Relationship Father Richard Rohr first developed his understanding of mentoring while studying male initiation rites from cultures and traditions throughout the

The Spirituality of Children has always been near and dear to my heart. As I continue to mature in my own spirituality, my love for children and their spirituality grows even more. I am a witness to my own spirituality and fortunate to sit with others as they journey back to retell their spiritual journey. How we all came to this place in life is a great mystery to me....

❤️ If you weren't too keen on the title of the book, "When Narcissism Comes To Church," you may appreciate this one. Both books call for honest reflection in our own lives first before we address others who use their power to abuse (knowingly or unknowingly) rather than to bless. If you are a Christ- follower, our power must bless. That's a true sign of discipleship....

This... Is... Absolutely... Beautiful! Today, my last lily bloomed. The one I've been waiting on. It's gorgeous. This garden was created during my Sabbatical. I am amazed to look back over the last year to see how much has changed, how much has grown, and how much beauty has been brought forth because of that difficult season. So much happens underground, in dark places where the sun doesn't shine....

I've been waiting quite a while for this last lily to bloom. I am eager to see what color it will be. I'm eager to behold its beauty in its fullness. My family has also joined in on the anticipation. Every day, we (me and Kali) wake up wondering if today is the day. I get Bruno, take him outside, and peek around the corner only to find it hasn't opened yet. I am disappointed, but the anticipation is still high, so I'm not hopelessly disappointed. Tomorrow, it may bloom. ❤️

We continue to look for signs of resurrection in this Easter season. Many signs of resurrection are visible like nature itself, others not so much. There are times I "hope" something life-giving is happening deep within. I trust that God is at work, working in ways I do not know. This helps me stay grounded. This helps me remember that there is so much left to God, and I am not God....

I'm reminded of how much we are loved by God. I am in awe of the love God pours out on us. I am loved by a generous God who loves me. No other God declares their love for their worshippers as God has done and continues to do. God rescues and sets right the world and all those who live in it....

❤️ What a wonderful and humble reminder to do our shadow work.
Today is the last day of Passover, a time during which we are invited to surrender to the flow of Love in our lives.
Many of us are familiar with Exodus 12, the story of the Israelites spreading blood from an innocent lamb over their door frames, to spare their firstborns from death. What does contemplative wisdom offer us about the image of the sacrificial Passover lamb?
"I personally think [the Passover lamb] is an image of the false self that is thought of as good, adequate, and even innocent,” writes Richard Rohr. “It is who I think I am before I do any shadow work and see my own dark sides... Only when we let go of our attachment to any good, superior, or innocent identity do we begin to grow up spiritually."
Let us take a moment to reflect on the ways in which we can let go of our egos to make space for greater love to flow through us. What kind of control can you release today?
We hope that by recognizing holy days outside the Christian tradition, we can inspire people to work together toward loving action.
❤️ This book is quite a read. I love how the author compelles us to first look at the narcissism that lies within each of us before we try to address it in the church. I believe this book is an honest reflection of why so much trauma and spiritual abuse happens in the church. The author often speaks of having someone to journey with as you are emotionally and spiritually maturing and healing....

My Easter Lilly's are not blooming yet, but my roses are. The process of how a bud forms, matures, and opens is breathtaking. I'm blown away at God's creative touch in the world, especially during this Easter season. When these blooms begin to die, I feel the pull of grief and remember that I, too, will expire one day. I ponder this....

One day, the whole story will be told, and we will all be humbled. In all stories, we only know parts. Oh God, help me turn toward wonder and be led to prayer; prayer for me and the other. Help my accusing thoughts be turned into blessings, and my judgments be softened by love.

What doors has God opened for you? What doors are opening now? We hear the Easter story. Jesus lived, was crucified, died, was buried, and rose again. Peter is in the house of Cornelius, a centurion, a gentile - not a Jew....
