National Sunglasses Day is Thursday, June 27. This day is all about the importance of wearing shades to protect your eyes from the sun’s harsh ultraviolet (UV) rays. Stop by for our 40% off sale.
Did you know that sunglasses were “invented” by the Eskimos 2,000 years ago. They were made from animal bone, leather and wood with small slits to effectively shield their eyes from the blinding glare reflected off the snow.

FUN FACT
Got an Eagle Eye? Bald eagles see 4-7 times better than the human eye. They can’t move their eyes from side to side but can rotate their heads 270 degrees to zero to zoom in on their next meal.
FEBRUARY IS AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION AWARENESS MONTH
AMD is a common eye disease that can blur your central vision. Unfortunately, sometimes aging causes damage to the macula - the part of the eye that controls sharp, straight-ahead vision. The macula is part of the retina (the light sensitive tissue at the back of the eye). AMD doesn’t cause complete blindness, but losing your central vision can make it harder to see faces, read, drive or do close up work. Peripheral vision is usually not affected. To learn more about AMD including treatment, visit our Website at www.familyeyegroup.com.
Happy Halloween from
Prince Charming, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Let’s not forget the evil queen and the sweet forest animals. Having a fun day in our Lancaster office. Our other staff members followed the yellow brick road to Ephrata hoping to find the Wizard of Oz.
FUN FACT
In the early days, glasses were actually considered a status symbol because they were so expensive to produce. Only the wealthy could afford to have them.
Every year people suffer serious eye injuries from backyard fireworks. Most victims are children and bystanders located near the pyrotechnics. SAFETY TIPS - Wear safety glasses. Never allow children to play with fireworks. Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby. Do not pick up a recently lit firework. Never attempt to re-shoot a firework that does not immediately fire. Be safe and protect yourself and your loved ones from unnecessary injuries.
Time to focus on preparing your students for going back to school. Stop by our optical shop and armor them with a new pair of glasses at a discounted price. Until then, we hope you are enjoying your summer.
July is UV Safety Month. Studies show that long term exposure to bright sunlight may increase the risk of cataracts and growths of the eye, including cancer. UV rays reflected off sand and water can cause eyes to sunburn, potentially resulting in temporary blindness. The American Academy of Ophthalmology reminds the public of the importance of shielding eyes from the sun’s harmful rays with 100% UV blocking sunglasses and brood brimmed hats. Enjoy your summer and please protect your eyes.
