Vitamin B12 and your genes!

You may be wondering what role your genes can play when it comes to getting enough vitamin B12. But first, why is B12 such an important nutrient?

Vitamin B12 is critical for proper brain and nervous system function. It also helps keep our blood cells healthy and doing their job!

The FUT2 gene has been identified as a gene that impacts how vitamin B12 is absorbed and used in the body. People with either the GG or GA variant of this gene are at higher risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, due to changes in how they absorb vitamin B12, and move it around the body.
