Saginaw, MI is now home to the second-largest mural in the United States.

Artist Okuda San Miguel, alongside his team from Spain, transformed the abandoned silos into colorful works of art for the Shine Bright Saginaw Mural Project. The team included five mid-Michigan artists who added their own touches to the project. Artists completed the mural after just 18 days of painting.

Okuda San Miguel, known as OKUDA, is a street artist based out of Madrid. Since 1997 his pieces have appeared on railroads and abandoned factories in his hometown. His multicolored geometric structures and patterns are combined with gray bodies and organic forms in artistic pieces that can be categorized as Pop Surrealism with a clear essence of street forms. His works can be seen in the streets and galleries around the world including India, Mali, Mozambique, United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, Peru, South Africa, Mexico and the European continent, among others.

Spotted: new artwork at Cherry Capital Airport - TVC (Traverse City)!

“There is joy in both the hygge of hibernating and the exhilaration of migrating to a warm weather destination or Winter ski trip. In these paintings, we leaned into this joy and the sublime beauty of the natural world as animals and landscapes transform with light, shape and color under frost, snow and flight. Some of us here in northern Michigan are "Let's get the heck outta here!", others arrive here or stay here, experiencing the novel melting taste of snowflakes or seeking the playful depths of snow for the first time. We hope this exhibit romances you with winter as you come and go and keeps you looking on the bright side!"

-Artists Justin Schull, Lindy Bishop, and Colleen Gleason Schull

We have new artwork here at the airport done by artists Justin Schull, Lindy Bishop, and Colleen Gleason Schull! 🎨 🖼️

The theme is MIGRATE / HIBERNATE. This is their fourth exhibit here at TVC and specifically embraces Winter.

They explain their inspiration below.

“There is joy in both the hygge of hibernating and the exhilaration of migrating to a warm weather destination or Winter ski trip. In these paintings, we leaned into this joy and the sublime beauty of the natural world as animals and landscapes transform with light, shape and color under frost, snow and flight. We hope this exhibit romances you with winter as you come and go and keeps you looking on the bright side!
GOOD GROUND - It's no wonder artists and art lovers alike love the Traverse City area.

In addition to the abundant and rich subject matter in our surroundings, northwest Michigan is home to many arts and culture organizations and institutions including Interlochen Arts
Academy and the Dennos Museum. That's why we are here. It's a great place to be an artist. We hope while you are here—whether arriving for the first time, or returning back to your home front—you get a chance to max out opportunities for live music, dance, theater and art. As your portal , Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) wants to make your travel experience as welcoming and stress free as possible. And well, it's known that art has a way of doing that. This exhibit is a "testing of the waters" for development of a future art and culture program. We hope you enjoy and connect with our paintings as well as people you meet, this place, this time and be all the better. Let's take off together!” - Justin, Lindy, and Colleen
