House Ed is hearing more testimony on the dyslexia bills. Marquette-Alger RESA Supt. Greg Nygen testified virtually from the U.P., opposing the bills and emphasizing the importance of building educators’ effectiveness rather than imposing additional requirements.

MAISA also testified in opposition of SB 567 & 568 with Executive Director, John Severson, and lobbyist, Dave Ladd, sharing potential modifications including funding for interventions and training for staff working with existing systems in ISDs.
Eric Hoppstock, Supt. of Berrien RESA, testified in opposition of SB 567 & 568 – emphasizing the need for various dyslexia screening techniques, and the importance of early intervention, which is not currently addressed in the proposed legislation.
Amy Conway, Supt. at Gibraltar School District, and Mike Latvis, Sr. Exec. Dir. of Legislative Affairs at Wayne RESA, testified before House Ed today in opposition to SB 567 & 568. Conway shared her experience with dyslexia and its impact as an educator.
