But those glasses were designed for my vision, not theirs, and they were convinced they didn’t work. This taught me a valuable lesson: everyone sees the world differently through their own lens.

This new therapist had a much more aggressive approach. He believed in pulling hard on my shoulder to speed up the healing process. It was incredibly painful and didn’t help at all. My shoulder actually got worse, so I had to switch therapists again.

A colleague in the recently shared a surprising experience. She’s a store manager for a national retailer that usually hits all of their targets and metrics. But with new nationwide systems recently implemented, her team has struggled, leading to a slight dip in performance.

During a recent visit, a regional manager harshly criticized everyone, the store, and the management team due to the dip, leaving them deflated. Determined to improve the situation, my colleague researched other stores' performances to how to measure success.

BEST MANAGER I EVER HAD

While in College I worked in Parks & Recreation.

One day I was pulled into the office and told I was going to be switched from managing Recreation Facilities to performing Ball Field Maintenance.

The only problem was I had zero experience and hadn't played Baseball in 15 years.

Nevertheless, I made the transition.

And I was initially terrible at it.

However, I was teamed with an excellent mentor.

He was an excellent trainer. He was friendly. He was patient. He was encouraging. He understood it would take time. When upper management asked about my performance, he said I was doing great, even though I wasn't.

He built a lot of trust with me and it paid off.

Within a few months, I was up to speed and when needed, I was able to perform the duties without supervision as we typically worked in pairs.

During that time I was taught a valuable lesson in Leadership that I still apply today.

Treat your people right. Train and develop them. Offer encouragement. Be respectful and friendly. Be patient. You will find more often than not, your followers will blossom.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS CHANGE SOMEONE'S MIND

While making an argument to someone in an attempt to either change or sway their behavior or thoughts, ultimately they have to decide.

You can provide logic.

All the evidence.

All the sound reasoning.

All the benefits.

All the consequences.

However, if that person decides not to change their mind or behavior, there is nothing you can do.

Make whatever decisions you have to make and redirect your energy.
