Din Tai Fung was started by Mr. Bing-Yi Yang after he immigrated to Taiwan at 20 years old with 20 dollars in his pocket. In 1958, he opened a small shop named Din Tai Fung - the name was a combination of his former employer 'Heng Tai Fung' and his new supplier 'Din Mei Oils.' Originally selling cooking oil, the shop transformed in the 1970s when Mr. Yang and his wife started offering steamed soup dumplings, known as Xiao Long Bao.

These hand-folded, steamed-to-order dumplings became a sensation, leading Din Tai Fung to evolve into a full-fledged restaurant with a menu crafted for sharing dishes with family and friends. Today, Xiao Long Bao remains a beloved favorite at over 160 DTF locations worldwide, still handmade with the same precision, care and craftsmanship that started it all.

Our entire lineup of fried rice dishes feature premium California-grown rice, gently seasoned, and expertly tossed together over high heat in our woks to bring out the subtle, carefully-curated flavors.
