Educators from CCSD’s 11 International Baccalaureate (IB) programs gathered at Spring Valley High School for the Summer Conference. Groups covered a range of topics from mathematics to teaching for conceptual understanding.

Discussions focused on promoting a positive climate and culture, increasing student learning, high-quality instruction, and much more.

They completed the The Public Education Foundation Teacher FastTrack Program to receive their bachelor’s degree and teaching license at UNLV and will help fill essential classroom positions.

Please meet Nestor Pineda, Assistant Principal at Vassiliadis Elementary School, home of the Mighty Cubs! 🐻 He is a proud 2012 Elementary Education alum of UNLV College of Education.
Nestor shared that his favorite UNLV course was Literacy Instruction because, “we learn the foundations of reading [and] really help students become readers!” He posits that this skill sets elementary majors apart from secondary education majors. 📚
Did you know that he’s a huge fan? He was married at Disneyland, and has vacationed at many of the parks. He has even been on several Disney cruises, including one on the Mediterranean Sea.

Cox Back to School Fair this weekend at Downtown Summerlin where dozens of CCSD departments and community organizations came together to provide families with info ahead of the first day of school. Interim Supt. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell stopped by to talk with families and staff members.

Our new principals gathered for the New Principal Kickoff at Sierra Vista High School to get ready for the school year! Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell got the morning started along with Trustee Bustamante Adams. Principals were then treated to an inspirational message by Hamish Brewer, the tattooed skateboarding principal. Thank you to Trustees Esparza-Stoffregan and Zamora for joining our principals for a motivational morning!

The audience was inspired by speeches from Las Vegas Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan and CCSD Police Department Lt. Jennifer Brooks.
