Stripes tonight! Missing a few others.

The most important quality a gym can have is positive culture. Good culture attracts good people, it makes them want to stay, train more, develop and grow side-by-side with their peers. This means standing shoulder-to-shoulder with these peers through thick and thin. Supporting them, helping them grow and, most importantly, giving back to the community that helped bring you up. This is what I preach and these are the values I have lived my life by. This is also why, despite everything the gym has gone through over the years, the culture has always remained intact. Like a tree that having good roots and a heathy trunk survives stronger than ever throughout any and all fire. Branches, grow and fall off, fruit also grows and fall off. But the root is invincible and outlasts any fire. With that being said, I could not be prouder of these guys today. They killed it this weekend again, Team Zenith takes 1st place. Proud and happy, yet not surprised… Special thanks to… American Nationals, here we come.

For years now, I have been brainstorming ideas about combat, an evidence-based curriculum (rather than speculation and/or personal preferences as in most systems), a methodology as well as the set values that barricade a martial-arts practice. My goal is to do my part in bringing BJJ back to its fighting roots and the values that are descriptive of the second-wave (as described in my second book: The Rise and Evolution of BJJ). I decided to begin implementing some of these ideas starting today. The curriculum is built on statistics from MMA fights, the methodology is borrowed from various fighting systems and the values and philosophy are influenced by Greek-Agonism and some ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche (particularly where the two overlap). I will explain all this in more detail in a forthcoming video and book. For now, it suffices to say that the class is available from Monday through Thursday from 5pm to 6pm and are taught by me. In time, I will be sharing more of my ideas regarding Agon Combat Jiu-Jitsu.
