Why compete?

We learn important lessons when we compete and martial arts offer all types of competitions for those who seek to benefit from competition experience. From small tournaments to national and international tournaments, individuals can choose to compete in either individual forms or various types of sparring. From goal setting to developing the confidence to perform in front of a large group, it doesn’t matter which events they choose, the benefits remain numerous. From learning to deal with loss and disappointment, to winning gold, qualifying for a national team spot or competing internationally, important life lessons will be learned. Additionally, achievements can also be listed on student’s CV’s.

We are excited to announce a our new floor is scheduled to arrive Weds the 17th!

What this means:

1. At this point we are planning to cancel our afternoon/evening Karate classes and evening Tai Chi class. If somehow the mat arrives on the earlier side and everything goes smoothly we will send out an email notifying you which classes will be held!

2. After 12 years of use (abuse?) we will be replacing our gray mat with a new “Breaking Wave Blue” floor mat!

3. We will work diligently to minimize any impact on our class schedule. However, it is possible that depending on delivery and installation time that there could be an effect on classes.

4. Please stay tuned for information should there be any necessary communications during this time.

Remember “many hands make light work”. If anyone is available and willing to help we would always appreciate our members involvement!

Thank you Manyu Wang for taking the interest and time to document “A Day In The Life” with me, my amazing wife Zoey Geller and all the amazing people I’m fortunate enough to cross paths on this martial arts journey.

I suppose it might seem like a trivial lifestyle to some. Everyday all day in a gym preparing for an imaginary battle that never happens, but for most of us training is the battle and we win every time we show up to practice at Breaking Wave Martial Arts .

For me it’s like Groundhog Day, but everyday is just about the best day you ever had.

Hopefully people might find it interesting or at least think to them selves “if he can find a life of passion in Kungfu, maybe following my own dream isn’t crazy or impossible. “ 🙏

This action-packed day is designed to bring out the inner ninja in all of our students, and promises to be a memorable experience filled with fun, learning, and adventure.

CCC Peking Opera Academy

Peking Opera as a unique form of art was established almost 150 years ago by Empress Cixi and has been cherished in mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong ever since.

Teacher Linghui Tu is a Chinese National Tier-One Performer. She has won the 4th Plum Blossom Award and the 1st Wenhua Performance Award, the highest level award in Chinese Theatre in China. She is a professor of the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts and served as the director of the Operative Art Education Centre and Continuing Education Department. She has studied and performed Chinese opera for 50 years in various countries. Tu has also directed Chinese operas, among which two have been awarded Class-One Performance Awards. She is a teacher in the Center for Theater Arts Collaboration at Binghamton University and participated on tours and other cultural activities. She graciously accepted the invitation of the Chinese Community Center of the Capital Region and is willing to drive long distance once every week to come here over to teach.

CCC Peking Opera Academy was established in March 2023. Since then our group has performed in CCC 50th Anniversary Gala, which was reported upon by various TV stations and The Times Union. This year the first semester program is being kindly sponsored by The Art Center of the Capital Region.

Students will be welcome to choose the program that fits their interests. Tuition can be paid monthly at the beginning of the month. For those who want to enjoy family package discount, tuition needs to be paid by the beginning of semester in full. For all packages though, the first 2 weeks of this semester can serve as a trial period by paying single weeks tuition at the beginning of each class.

Payment by check only made out to_Chinese Community Center, with remark Peking Opera, no cash or credit card. There will be no more than 10 position per class. So please register soon.
