Dear CALA Members,
CALA is excited to announce that our 2020 CALA Outstanding Service Award has been presented to Ms. Shari Cuomo. Shari currently serves as Senior Library Clerk in the Begley Library at SUNY Schenectady County Community College.
The CALA Outstanding Service Award was created to acknowledge outstanding service by local library assistants in their own libraries and in the library profession as a whole. The Capital District Library Council and the Capital Area Library Assistants are the official sponsors of the Award.
The Outstanding Service Award is intended to promote the role and image of library assistants and support staff and recognize the importance of support staff in the library profession, in keeping with CALA’s goal To enhance a professional image of library support staff within the library community.
Nominees for the award must be individuals who have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to service to their library, the library community and the library profession. The successful nominee transcends the normal definitions of excellence, going above and beyond the parameters of their job description to demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation and problem solving.
In support of her nomination, Shari’s colleagues cited her initiative in managing many responsibilities in her library, including efforts to insure the smooth and successful relocation to a temporary workspace, necessitated by the library renovation. Her work in writing procedure manuals for both the temporary space and the new Learning Commons, all while answering questions and supporting staff, helped maintain the highest level of service for library patrons. In addition to her work in the library, Shari was cited for her service to the campus community, volunteering for the College’s food pantry, the campus COVID testing site and as an operator for the college-wide chat feature.
Our Coordinating Committee would like to thank Shari for her outstanding work and we are very proud to have her as one of our members. Her achievements embody the ideals of CALA and her service to our community stands as a model for our profession. Please join us in congratulating Shari on her Award!
