Yep! Help make Cyber Monday Ceiba Monday!
Change our world - PLANT TREES!

Ceiba or Tree of Life (Ceiba pentandra)

Give the gift of multiple lifetimes — a Ceiba tree planted now can live for over 500 years! This towering giant can reach 230 feet in height and ten feet in diameter, growing as much as 13 feet annually.

The Ceiba’s giant limbs create an umbrella shaped crown that are loaded with epiphytes — aerial plants such as bromeliads — where frogs raise their tadpoles in the tiny pools of water that collect in bromeliads’ leaves. Ceiba’s provides shelter for countless species of animals, with birds nesting and foraging in its tall perches, mammals using its huge limbs as aerial highways, and insects reaching the height of their diversity in the canopy of this giant tree. Ceiba’s flowers are important food for bats and insects and the fiber of its fruit is called “kapok” is used similarly to cotton, to light lamps, and to make soap. It was the most sacred of all trees to the ancient Mayans.

You can help plant more Ceiba trees by visiting prfrp.org to donate or volunteer and become part of the ‘Butterfly Effect’.

It's EARTH DAY 2023!

Pierella Rainforest Reclamation Project will be planting the final 2,000 trees to complete our project at the Las Cruces Research Station in Costa Rica.

Each of the six plots will be home to two different reforestation experiments as the growth of the 50+ species is tracked in the coming years. These plots will capture over 100 tons of carbon every year for decades and become home to thousands of insects, birds, frogs and mammals. Fast-growing, indigenous, keystone and pioneer tree species are being planted specifically to support the return of macaws, sloths, monkeys and bats. For more on this project visit www.prfrp.org/home/las_cruces/

PRFRP is collaborating with many organizations to help make this possible: Organization for Tropical Studies; Osa Conservation; Crowther Labs; University of Texas, El Paso; FedSoft; Green Cross

Earth Day 2023 is this TOMORROW - Saturday, April 22
and Pierella Rainforest Reclamation Project is planting 2,000 trees this May.

Did you know two-toed sloths spend more time hanging from horizontal branches, while three-toed sloths often sit in trees.

The Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) This bird was considered divine by ancient Mayan and Aztecs. It was also a part of Mesoamerican mythology and associated with the feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl.

Beautiful, exotic birds like this thrive in the rainforest, but are endangered because of loss of habitat. Cloud forests, the Resplendent Quetzal's habitat, are one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world.

Help us help magnificent birds like this, by reclaiming rainforest for them. Learn more about the Resplendent Quetzal at prfrp.org

Sloth Saturday
Trees and wildlife corridors are very important to sloths. Visit prfrp.org to find out more about the sloth and how you can help plant trees to maintain a strong sloth ecosystem.

• Sloths live almost all their lives in trees, and they can hang in branches with almost no effort, due to their long claws
• Sloths are folivores, eating leaves almost exclusively, and it takes them 28 days to digest them
• Sloths get most of the water they need from leaves, but do drink, especially when it is hot
• Sloths only come down out of trees to defecate - around once a week

SWEETEST DEAL of the day!
Plant a Guaba Tree (Inga edulis)
- aka the 'Ice Cream Bean' tree. The sweet fruit in the pods is food dozens of species of birds and mammals.
- The tree is a legume and helps fix nitrogen in the soil depleted when the land was pasture.
- It grows to be 100' tall and one tree can capture approximately 18,000 lbs of CO2. It will also release 13,000 lbs of oxygen back into the atmosphere.

You can help change our Earth by helping us plant trees. Visit prfrp.org to donate or volunteer and become part of the ‘Butterfly Effect’.

On this Thanksgiving Day 🦃, we are thankful for our donors, volunteers, team-members, and partners. It takes a team to Change Our Earth.

This group prepped land and planted 225 trees in Sept, and will plant 2,000 more trees this spring.

Macaws can grow to 3’ and live about 50 years in the wild. The Scarlett Macaw is protected in Costa Rica.

The biggest threat to their species is habitat loss, so by reforesting the rainforest with almendron, one of macaw’s favorite trees, we are working to save this ecologically important species.

You can help create more habitat for the Scarlett Macaw by visiting prfrp.org to donate or volunteer and become part of the ‘Butterfly Effect’.

It has been a big year for PRFRP! In February we gained 501(c)3 status. In June we received a generous donation from FedSoft. That donation that enabled us to travel to Costa Rica in September and plant 225 native trees at a local research station!

You can help us do so much more by liking, sharing, donating, and visiting our website: https://www.prfrp.org/

Climate change affects EVERYONE. Rainforest Reclamation is the best way to capture carbon and help stop the climate change and that is why we started PRFRP.

Our organization is working to get trees in the ground and study the reclamation process to see how we can best heal the Earth.

Even though it's no longer Earth Week, we should still be paying attention to what's happening to our planet. Habitats around the world are seeing record losses and we are working to combat that by reforesting the Earth!
