The Lee County School System is deeply saddened to share that one of our long-time staff members, Mr. Alonza Cross, has passed away.

Mr. Cross was a dedicated member of our Transportation Department for over forty-two years. His love for his job and the children he drove to and from school was evident. He touched the lives of so many and our community is better because of his steadfast presence and team-spirit.

On behalf of Dr. Truitt and the Board of Education, we offer our deepest condolences to the Cross family. Mr. Cross set the standard for serving in excellence and we are proud to have had him as a part of our FamiLEE.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00a.m. in the Greater Second Mount Olive Baptist Church Faith Center, located at 103 Dewey Street, Albany, GA.

Students were given a project to write letters to law enforcement departments across the state of Georgia and ask if they would send a departmental patch. Junior Work-Based Learning student, Rylee Thompson works for former student and business owner, Trinity Mallard at Fashionably Fitted Hats By Trin. Rylee can be found attending events around the area and they will soon have a storefront business for customers to get the latest in trucker hat designs, jewelry, and other accessories. Rylee is described as a hard worker and has a passion for helping others create the neatest designs. We are super proud for both of these ladies and can’t wait to continue growing with them.
