The Desperate Personal Search

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

The average person in the world today, without faith and without God and without hope, is engaged in a desperate personal search throughout his lifetime. He does not really know where he has been. He does not really know what he is doing here and now. He does not know where he is going.
The sad commentary is that he is doing it all on borrowed time and borrowed money and borrowed strength—and he already knows that in the end he will surely die! It boils down to the bewildered confession of many that “we have lost God somewhere along the way.”…
Man, made more like God than any other creature, has become less like God than any other creature. Created to reflect the glory of God, he has retreated sullenly into his cave—reflecting only his own sinfulness.
Certainly it is a tragedy above all tragedies in this world that man, made with a soul to worship and praise and sing to God’s glory, now sulks silently in his cave. Love has gone from his heart. Light has gone from his mind. Having lost God, he blindly stumbles on through this dark world to find only a grave at the end.

(What Ever Happened to Worship, excerpt, A. W. Tozer)

It is the hope of everyone working at Hope Haven, by providing some spiritual and physical assistance, that the Lord will use us to help draw some out the cave of self-filled darkness described above into the Light and Life of Christ. However imperfect our efforts may be to some, that is our goal and hope.

This is the link for Pastor John's interview on the WIGY Breakfast Club radio program...
https://wigyradio.com/breakfast-club-blog/663379

early in the interview he was asked if his efforts with the homeless and generally disadvantaged was a calling. His answer was, of course, yes. Due to time constraints, he gave a very abbreviated statement which he more fully explains here:

Being saved, by definition, a born again Christian, at an early age, I had the desire to be a disciple of Christ. When Christ's call to service came through Jeremiah 15:19-21, there came with it the qualifications of being a disciple.

Those qualifications are best and most simply presented by the Lord himself in: (KJV)Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

The first step is self denial. This means surrendering to Christ what I might have wanted in and for my life. At the time of my surrender, my wife and I were both federally licensed professionals with nearly 25 years combined experience. Some may question Christ with regard to a person "dropping everything" to follow him. Matthew 4:18-22 will dispell that argument.

Directly connected to self-denial is "taking up" one's cross. The most accurate way for me to example this would be by Christ's very life's purpose while here on earth. He was, simply put, born to die for the sins of every person. This was determined before his coming as a baby to be raised by Mary and Joseph(which coming we will celebrate in about a month). So, it can be understood as his responsibility or his duty. His "cross" was to be a literal cross - one specifically designed for cruelty in death. I thank God that he did not remain dead but was raised to life by God's power as we celebrate during the Easter season. My responsibilities and duties are outlined in the verses outlined in the reference in Jeremiah above.

Lastly, though my surrender and commitment was and still is for my lifetime, I renew my surrender to his Lordship and leading on a daily basis. This can only be accomplished through Bible reading and studying combined with prayer. Please don't misunderstand - these things are not always easy to maintain. Consistency is difficult for most of us.
I've learned by trial and error that he knows what's best for me. His allowed trials as well as his generous blessings through his abundant mercy and grace are always on time and in the right proportion to my need.

Are you saved? If you are, have you determined to be his disciple? The door of opportunity for both is wide open. (KJV)John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (KJV)John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
