We ask our teens to describe their perfect room décor before they join us so they can walk into a space they’re proud of and comfortable in. This teen stated she loves plants and neutral colors that go with sage. She mentioned browns, whites, and golds and expressed a desire to be surrounded by plants because it helps keep her at peace and find a sense of serenity. We believe that peace and serenity are exactly what was achieved!

Thanks to the Denton County Homeless Coalition for inviting Journey to Dream and other local nonprofits to participate in their Together We Count Fundraising Event. Barnhardt's Barbershop and Tried and True Salon were kind enough to allow us to set up a table, to share and raise awareness about the importance of DCHC, along with Journey to Dream's mission and how others can get involved. It was a beautiful day!

Mariela is our first-ever volunteer for the Dream Initiative School program. Being a graduate from Lewisville High School herself, she was a great addition to our LHS school group and was someone the teens could relate to in that sense. She is a great communicator and good listener with a warm presence and kind spirit, which helps our LHS students feel safe, heard, and seen. Mariela is an admirable young adult who serves as a great role model for our teens and deserves to be recognized for giving back to her community by volunteering with Journey to Dream!

We are thrilled to announce that we now have a student at Dallas College! RM has enrolled in Music Appreciation and signed up for several other classes. He took photos of the buildings, classrooms, and room numbers to familiarize himself with the campus and even got himself a Dallas College shirt to show his pride. He's all set for this new chapter!

Thank you to Jessica Agee with Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) for stopping by with their President, Neal Walker, Vice President Keith Nix, and their team with graduation gifts for our teens! Thank you for making the next steps for our seniors feel like more of a reality. The laptops will prepare our young adults for their first day of college. They are excited and ready to take on the world with one less stressor.

A HUGE thank you to Dream Initiative staff member, Faith Logan for helping a teen move to Texas Woman’s University. She was born in Mexico and immigrated to the US with her mother as a young girl. She didn't know English when she moved to America, so she taught herself by reading books, attending class, and listening to music. She now uses those skills to tutor Spanish-speaking students learning English through her own personal experience. She finished high school with a 3.8 GPA and aspires to be an attorney to help others who cannot advocate for themselves. Join us in wishing her luck in her new adventure!

We are EXTREMELY proud of our 2024 graduates! Four great teens became high school graduates at The Star in Frisco yesterday. The graduation ceremony was a wonderful celebration surrounded by family, friends, JTD family, and mentors. We continued the celebrations at Mt. Fuji in Highland Village over Hibachi. These amazing teens worked hard to meet Texas' requirements. Despite attending over 15 different high schools, they achieved diplomas from New Braunfels HS and Lewisville HS. Each school meant a different learning style, new teachers, a new campus, and even a change in the number of courses a student could take. However, these challenges did not stop any of our teens from graduating. They did it!!!

We want to congratulate three employees who have achieved significant personal and professional accomplishments.

- Samantha Sims, Chief Development Officer, completed the Nonprofit Management Certificate Program offered by the Denton Nonprofit Management Program delivered by the Center for Nonprofit Management.

- Chandler McKinney, Social Media-Brand Coordinator, earned a degree in Communications and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from The University of Texas San Antonio.

- Nicole Cervantez, Lead Residential Care Specialist and Facility Manager, is now a Certified First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor and will train our teens and staff.

Congratulations on your great success!

Chevelle is a volunteer with KP Meal Program. Our teens have been enjoying all the scrumptious variety of meals she has been cooking for them. She even cooked at home and brought food to our campus when we were unable to use our kitchen during renovations, we appreciate you very much!

An award ceremony was held by LHS to honor all cadets who received scholarships, pins, ribbons, and acknowledgments for their hard work over the years. As per senior tradition, cadets passed down their name tag to a fellow cadet who meant the most to them. Congratulations to the JROTC seniors!
