🌟 Get to Know the Officer: Meet Officer Slaughter! 🚔

This month, we're excited to highlight Officer J. Slaughter in our "Get to Know the Officer" series. Officer Slaughter has proudly served with the Lewisville Police Department for the past three years. Before transitioning to law enforcement, he was an Army Combat Engineer with the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, GA, and was deployed to Afghanistan. After his military service, Officer Slaughter began his law enforcement career with the Monroe, Louisiana Police Department and later moved to Texas to continue his dedication to public service.

What drives Officer Slaughter is supporting individuals during their most challenging times and making a positive impact on today’s youth. When he's not on duty, he loves spending time with his four-year-old daughter, his pride and joy, and enjoys his hobbies of aviation and hitting the gym.

Stay tuned to learn more about the amazing people who make up our team!

Important Update from Lewisville Police Department

We're upgrading our public safety communications system to encrypted channels over the next month. This change will more effectively safeguard critical operations, emergency responses, and personally identifiable information exchanged during public safety incidents.

What does this mean for you?

*LPD radio traffic will no longer be accessible on scanners or online apps.

*Information transmitted across the radio system will be better safeguarded for privacy to those involved.

*Radio communications will still be available through open records requests.

This upgrade aligns LPD with best practices and other regional agencies that have already encrypted their radios. The transition is expected to be complete before October.

For questions, contact Public Information Officer Rachel Roberts at [email protected] or 972.219.3663.

We forgot to share that we had 6 DWI arrests on that day but over the weekend Aug. 23 thru Aug 26, from Friday 7 p.m. until Monday 6 a.m. we had a total of 14 DWI arrests.

****ORIGINAL****
On Saturday August 24, as a part of Saturation Saturday, LPD was actively seeking impaired drivers. Which we found, unfortunately by one of the impaired drivers striking our Traffic officer's car!

The impaired driver was arrested for DWI with open alcohol container.

Yes an officer was in the vehicle and yes he went to the hospital to get checked out, the officer was injured and will not be back on the road for a little while.

Another impaired driver is off the road, but this was not the preferred method we had intended.

Lewisville Police Department is out and about for Saturation Saturday, yes that is today!

This coordinated effort aims to save lives by intensifying impaired driving enforcement during one of the year's busiest travel periods.

Every year, more than 13,000 people are killed and almost 400,000 injured by impaired drivers. Drunk driving fatalities have increased by 33% since 2019. Every 79 seconds, someone in the U.S. is killed or injured by a drunk driver — and that number does not include the deaths and injuries caused by drivers who were impaired by cannabis or other controlled substances. According to NHTSA, in 2022, 1,869 people in Texas were senselessly killed by drunk drivers.

Collaboration with MADD Texas to remove impaired drivers from out streets

The footage in this video is from the body camera of one of Lewisville Police Department's finest. While you see things from his point of view the other officers on scene use multiple fire extinguishers to help reduce the fire while trying to remove the driver. It is intense, viewer caution is suggested.

Thank you Ofc. Lopez, Ofc. Goodwin, Ofc. Prosise, Ofc. Garcia and all the other helping hands on this one.

The scholarship program is offered to incoming freshmen (Fall 2024), or a current college student, in good academic standing, who demonstrate leadership, community service, and are of good character. Two scholarships, each for $1000, will be given to applicants from Lewisville PD.

Saturday August 17 Jordan Rodriguez and Madeleine Marlar-Pavey were awarded the scholarships. Jordan is the daughter of our very own Commander Mayes and Madeleine is the wife of Crime Analyst Ashley Pavey.
