BeintheWater Outdoors
BeintheWater is about living simply, living outdoors, and living in balance LIVE. OUTDOORS. TOGETHER. TODAY. Get moving. Take action. To say I am is to say I exist.
To say I am being is to say that I exist with a purpose. OUR PASSION. Embraces under starry skies. Excitement of a misty morning sunrise. Smiles in the sunlight. Laughter in the waves. Reflection on our moments in the sunsets. OUR PLACE. An intimate union. A fellowship of spirits. A celebration of the ones we love. OUR PARTNERS. Being in this moment. Knowing who we are, what we are doing, and why we are doing it, right now. OUR PRESENT.
We got so focused on removing nest predators (72 c***s in 3 years) that we forgot to focus on these. Its proven that when hens are pushed off of a nest, the success rate for hatching her clutch declines dramatically. 2nd time they are pushed, clutch failure is as high as 80%. Keeping eggs warm and dry is essential for a good poult hatch. Bobcats and Coyotes arent nest predators, but they impact nest productivity drastically. Not to mention the upcoming fawning season. Any volunteers???

Here's my question. 2nd year clover with some rye. Should I mow and let clover choke it out or hit it with clethodim?
Also, Japanese stiltgrass. Best strategy?
So, the KDFWR deer harvest results were published today.
We have to kill more does!!! 57% bucks in that harvest total. That's not sustainable.
Hard to be a trophy deer state if the habitat is depleted by does.

I think its time again. That season has passed. Spirit is being renewed. Putting aside cynicisms cultivated in me by the actions and words of others. Putting aside guilt in me that is the result of my reactions. Hearing about the death, injury, and illnesses of friends and families and strangers. Dealing with near death, injuries and illnesses within my own home. The past few years, have been a lesson in going with the flow. Calm, even still at times. It always changes. Slow. Easy. Suddenly falling into chaos of white turbulent spray among boulders, the universe sending you into small eddies for a brief moment before the current pulls us back into the chaos once again. The channel is narrow and focused in these moments. Intensity is the rule. Darkness cast by the shadows where the sun seems it will never be seen again. Sadness, fear, anger, rage. Relaxing in these moments is so hard. Learning to continue in a flow is so, so, counter intuitive. But deep inside you have hope. Recalling that the stream cannot rage on like this without end. Knowing that the channel will eventually open up into something wide and majestic. Where the light is golden and the focus seems soft and gentle. The water seems warmer and its pace is not only manageable but enjoyable.

I got up this morning seeing a beautiful blue sky, wonderful sunrise, and was met with some cool autumn hair as I started my day. I thought to myself Lexington Kentucky is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Then the thought occurred to me that Kentucky is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
As I took a moment to reflect on my feelings this morning, a new thought struck me. I have seen the beaches of Hawaii, Southern California, the Gulf Coast of Florida. I have seen crystal clear waters of glacial lakes in Canada, natural springs in Florida, and mountain springs of the Appalachians. I have seen vistas from the top of the Rockies, from the top of the Smokies, and from the top of some of the tallest buildings in America.
I have been in million dollar mansions, I have been in hand built rough lumber homes, and I've been in run down single wide trailers. I have eaten in five star restaurants, Old Country stores, and on the tailgate of old work trucks.
I have hiked and hunted woods and fields all over this country. I have fished and swam and boated rivers and streams and lakes all over this country and Canada.
In all of these places I have felt at ease. In all of these places I found beauty.
That's when it hit me. WHY? Why do I feel at ease and find the beauty in all of the places? Then it hit me, "I seek the beauty."
Then I thought, WHY? Why do I do that? Then it occurred to me that I was raised that way.
Then I thought, "who do I owe the thanks?"
The mother's and fathers of Berea, Ky. That attitude is the product of the founder of our college. "God has made of one blood all the people's of the earth." That attitude is a product of MY community. I learned that beauty is born within us.
That's when I saw the post on face book declaring what I had already decided this very morning. Berea is one of the best small towns in America.
Berea, where beauty is born.

Don't be fooled by the promises made about "the gorge"... the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and Daniel Boone National Forest merge in an area far superior in many ways. Go to McCreary County Kentucky to lose yourself in the best we have to offer.
