This is huge for our community. This will open the door to Medicaid to many families who were previously denied due to parent income. To qualify your child needs to meet institutional level of care. What does that mean? - An institutional level of care is when an individual has substantial limitations in EACH of these three areas:
Conceptual Skills (language, reading, money, time, number concepts, and self-direction), and
Social Skills (interpersonal skills, social responsibility, self-esteem, gullibility, wariness, social problem-solving, and the ability to follow laws and rules and to avoid being victimized), and
Practical Skills (activities of daily living, personal care, job skills, healthcare, mobility, and the capacity for independent living).
Do you wish your child could get more speech, OT or PT than what school is providing? This can help cover outside therapies. If you have not yet applied for the waitlist, you will want to apply for this!

Important update for individuals receiving services through the Katie Beckett Program –
Children who meet the Intermediate Care Facility Level of Care or Nursing Facility Level of Care will be eligible for Medicaid.

This expansion allows the child to be able to access Medicaid services, without requiring participation in a Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver.

More information can be found at: https://dhhs.ne.gov/DD%20Documents/Katie%20Beckett%20Program%20Info%20Sheet.pdf.
