Health insurance costs were among the top issues of importance to Nebraska farmers and ranchers who took part in a recent Nebraska Farm Bureau survey of Nebraska Farm Bureau members across the state. Nebraska Farm Bureau farmer and rancher members participated in the survey and overwhelmingly said that affordability of health care, health insurance, and access to both, was high on their list of concerns. Nebraska Farm Bureau heard those concerns and is working to give farmers, ranchers, agribusiness professionals, small business owners and all Nebraskans options to lower costs when it comes to health care plans.

Nearly a month after gathering in Lincoln for a special session, state legislators granted their final approval to a tax reform bill on August 20. This special session was initiated by Governor Jim Pillen on July 25 to tackle the issue of property taxes in Nebraska. Pillen signed a series of bills into law that will result in a small amount of property tax relief. NEFB President Mark McHargue provides a wrap up to the special session and reaction to the property tax relief package.

Daniel Hasart is a fourth generation farmer and cattle rancher. He was born and raised in Eastern Colorado. After graduating high school, the family farm and ranch expanded to Wood Lake, Nebraska where he manages the day-to-day operations of the ranch. The 2024 cattle inventory is the lowest it has been since 1951, which has sent beef prices soaring. The hog industry is looking profitable, too, but has a lot of ground to make up for with last year’s losses as well as supply chain complications caused by California’s Proposition 12.
