LUX Center for the Arts
The LUX is Lincoln's Community Arts Center, a vital resource for the visual arts in Nebraska.
LUX Center for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to provide high quality visual arts experiences and educational opportunities for its community through art classes, artist in residency programs, gallery exhibitions, and community outreach. The center, organized as the University Place Arts Center in 1977, was renamed in honor of Gladys M. Lux - benefactor, artist, and art
We started the year celebrating First Friday at the Capitol! ποΈ Sen. George Dungan, who represents University Place, asked the LUX to bring art to display in his office. Artists Shawn Teseo Ballarin, Anne Burton, Keith Buswell, David Sukovaty and Kat Wiese all had work presented.β¨ πΌοΈ
We are grateful for the incredible support from Sen. George Dungan, a huge advocate for the arts. As well as County Commissioner Christa Yoakum , John Yoakum, and County Treasurer Rachel Garver for their continuing backing of LUX Center for the Arts and our talented artists. Thank you! π¨π
This Friday, January 12th we welcome a new show into the LUX Print Gallery, "Frozen in Time" curated by Susan Soriente.
Prints capture a moment in time which is doubly exemplified by the subject of winter when nature also is frozen and stilled. Artists such as Asa Cheffetz, Grant Wood, Adolf Dehn, and Samuel Margolies from the exhibition, Frozen in Time, printed precise and meticulous impressions of static snowy winter scenes. They and other artists who created winter images that are Frozen in Time.
"Frozen in Time" may be seen in the LUX Print Gallery on the 2nd floor. The exhibition was curated by Susan Soriente, Curator of the Gladys Lux Print Collection.

The LUX was happy to help Union Bank & Trust bring the Combs family some extra holiday cheer! πβ¨
Wishing the Combs family all the warmth and joy this holiday season! π
Say hello to our fourth Magic Moments family: the Combs.
Michael and Courtnee were living a very normal life with their children, Fox and Luna. Last summer, seemingly in an instant, their world changed as their little Luna became very sick. She was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare type of liver cancer that affects fewer than one in a million children. Her team of doctors came to the conclusion that a liver transplant was her best option.
In October 2022, Luna underwent her liver transplant surgery. Unfortunately, it was later discovered she has Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder (PTLD), a complication of her anti-rejection medicine, and that meant more chemo, more tubes, and more time away from home.
One year later in October of this year, the Combs family received the wonderful news that Luna is in remission! UBT and our partners wanted to give the Combs some extra joy this holiday season.

We'd like you to meet Andy Peterson, the new Director of Programs and Operations at the LUX!!
Andy Peterson grew up in Minnesota and then spent several formative years in New England before arriving in Lincoln in 2012. He is a firm believer in life-long learning and has collected a degree in Philosophy and a professional certificate in design theory as well as pursuing a second degree in art history. Professionally he has worked for more than twenty years in the retail sector developing a passion for mentoring leadership and operational systems. He is thrilled to turn that experience towards the non-profit sector in support of promoting the arts in Lincoln.
βThe LUX provides amazing and unique opportunities for everyone in the area to engage with art in their own way. Making my own art has been a powerful tool that I have leaned on to learn more about myself and the wider world. I am humbled to get to support this mission for the community.β
It is the end of an era at the LUX.
Longtime staff member and Associate Director Lindsey Clausen has left the LUX after many years of helping to make the LUX an arts education powerhouse.
Lindsey has served as the Associate Director, Director of Programs, Education Intern, and Art Instructor. Lindsey says:
"It has been a great gift to grow up alongside the LUX Center for the Arts. I can't imagine who I would be without this organization.
July marked the nine-year anniversary of my full-time employment with LUX. October marked my 15-year anniversary if you include the time I was a part-time instructor and intern.
I am so proud that I have been a part of it for so long and during such a transformative period.
Helping shape the LUX as it grew has been the passion project of a lifetime, and I trust that it is in a wonderful place to take on the challenges of the future.
For those of you that donβt already know I'll be shifting my focus toward starting up a new business called Archway Studios in the new UNI Place Creative District. Iβm converting the former Berry Law Firm building at 48th and Saint Paul Ave into studio space for artists and creative businesses.
Iβll also be focused on arts-based project management and graduate school. These new ventures will allow me to continue doing what I love most: bringing creative projects to life. I'm thrilled to apply my skills to a range of new endeavors.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey at the LUX! I'm incredibly grateful for all the amazing experiences, and I'm eager to see where this next adventure leads."
We will miss Lindsey without a doubt, but her legacy of stellar art education will continue. We wish her well in her future endeavors!
