Our Founder, Ms. Nikki Grier has a vision for the education of Black children that will change the trajectory of lives forever. She deeply believes in the innate genius of children and the indelible influence of teachers. At DSA, we daily strive for Deliberate Excellence by all means necessary because our children deserve it!
We finish off Women’s History Month strong by honoring the mother of our School Founder and Leader, Principal Nikki Grier.
In 1976, Officer Brenda Venson Grier became the first Black female Atlanta police officer to become a certified police academy instructor. Officer Grier was also a trained hostage negotiator.
Barbara Sullivan was AN ATLANTA ICON, with a distinguished presence in Atlanta’s dance community. She has been described as bold and brilliant. From stage to television and film, to notable Liturgical Dance trailblazer, Minister Sullivan’s career spanned an impressive 65 years, and will continue to influence the many lives she touched.
Regina Rene King is an American actress and director. She has received various accolades, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and four Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2019, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Keke Palmer is a role model to young women everywhere! Aside from her talents in singing and acting, she has branched out to mentoring the community, podcasting and even donating to women’s empowerment groups. As a mother to a handsome baby boy, she constantly reminds us that nothing can keep us from purpose as we persevere!
Dr. Ashanti Johnson is an American geochemist and chemical oceanographer. She is the first African American to earn a doctoral degree in oceanography from Texas A&M University! Showing us that perseverance yields results!
We are super proud to give a shout out to the amazing Zaila Avant- Garde! She is the very first black student to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee! At only 17 years old, she has accomplished so much and continues to inspire students worldwide!
Sheryl Lee Ralph is an American actress most known for her role as Deena in dream girls. Throughout her years as a performer, she has shown grace and talent as she has fought to show that being a performer is more than just acting, it’s showing the world that having integrity is a huge part of having a positive influence!
Mae Jemison is a black American engineer, physician and former NASA astronaut! Being the first black woman to enter space, she has proven that women can do anything!
It’s a museum! Our third grade cubs created a living black history museum for the rest of our students to enjoy! Here are just a few of the awesome historical icons they paid homage to. With the help of our third grade teachers, our students were able to put this on with success!
Kamala Harris is the very first Black Vice President! Running alongside Biden in 2020, she has given us all something to look up to and believe in. At DSA, we give our best to show excellence each and every day, Kamala shows us that excellence is possible!
Halle Bailey is an Atlanta native actress & singer. Most known for singing with her sister Chloe Bailey and most recently het performances in The Color Purple and The Little Mermaid. She believes all little girls need something amazing to believe in!
Exploring the wild side with our first and second graders at the zoo! Learning about animals up close and personal, making memories that roar with excitement. 🐾🦁

FLY HIGH MIDDLE SCHOOL! Our sixth graders had the opportunity to go to go to iFly on a magical field experience that left them feeling like birds! Learning about wind tunnels, gravitational force and skydiving was a unique and fun time!
Kindergarten had a beautiful field experience to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens! They got a chance to learn about different types of flowers while getting hands on experience!
Our first ever PBL night was a success! DELTA STEAM Academy is a project based learning institution and we pride ourselves on not only teaching our young engineers, but allowing them the space to create from their knowledge. We allowed our students from each grade to showcase the projects they’ve been working on and it was loved by all!
We’re middle school teachers at DSA, of course we love our job!
