Soldiers from across 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, convened at Camp Ripley to compete in the 2023 brigade-level Best Warrior Competition this weekend. Brigade senior enlisted leader Command Sergeant Major Rian Hofstad proudly hosted the event for the last time ahead of relinquishing his role to Command Sergeant Major Ben Schieber at a Change of Responsibility ceremony scheduled for March 12.

The Best Warrior Competition is a physically and mentally challenging competition that tests Soldiers on a variety of technical and tactical skills. From land navigation, marksmanship and weapons skills, to urban operations, an assault course, a written essay and an appearance before a board of sergeants major, competitors employ a range of skills relevant to today’s operating environment.

The competition promotes espirit de corps and recognizes Soldiers who demonstrate commitment to the Army Values and embody the Warrior Ethos. Winners are named the Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Year and go on to represent the organization at higher levels, with the best of the best competing with Soldiers from across the U.S. Army.
