Morrison County Sheriff Office
Morrison County Sheriff's Office was started in 1856, Currently Sheriff Shawn Larsen is the sheriff
Sharing a post from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in South Carolina. This post features Shannon Huffman, who is the granddaughter of past Morrison County Chief Deputy Andrew Herlitz. Thankfully this isn’t a common call for service for our agency!
The Morrison County Sheriff's Office wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable deer hunt. Unfortunately, every year our office fields calls of someone getting lost in the woods, falling out of a stand, shooting at a deer and the round strikes someone else's property, etc. Here are a few things to remember while hunting:
- Know your target and beyond prior to shooting.
- Always practice safe firearm handling.
- Refrain from trespassing and be respectful towards other people's property.
- Be as visible as possible and use extra caution when utilizing a tree stand.
-Make sure you tell someone of your plans to include where you will be hunting and when you will return.
- Have a charged cellphone on you in case of an emergency.
- Make sure to follow all state laws and regulations.
Most importantly, have fun and enjoy yourself!
FYI
Today we were invited by the Little Falls High School to talk about our careers in law enforcement. This was a meaningful opportunity for those who may be interested in public service. Thank you to the Little Falls School District and staff for the invite!
Law Enforcement present included: Little Falls Assistant Police Chief John Ruby, Minnesota State Trooper Sam Catlin, Morrison County Chief Deputy Jason Worlie and Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen.
Morrison County Law Enforcement will be conducting a night time shoot at the Eastern Morrison County Sportsman Club on Tuesday, November 5th and Wednesday, November 6th. We wanted the public to be aware in case you see extra squads in the area and/or hear gun fire taking place. We appreciate the communities support and understanding!
Congratulations to the Upsala/Swanville USA Patriots on your victory today! Section 4A champions!

FYI
On November 1, at approximately 1:50 am, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting on Loerch Rd in Oak Lawn Township east of Brainerd. Deputies arrived in the area and found an adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Lyle Maske, 62 years old from Brainerd.
Investigators identified CHAD AANERUD, 35 years old from Brainerd, as a suspect in the shooting. Aanerud allegedly took five individuals against their will and left the scene in a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, white in color. The Sheriff’s Office has reason to believe the shooting death and the apparent abduction are related incidents.
The victims involved include a 33-year-old female, and four juveniles ages 14, 11, 7, and 3 years old.
An Amber Alert was sent out with the suspect and vehicle information.
At approximately 7:15 am, the vehicle was located and stopped by law enforcement in Morrison County. Aanerud was taken into custody, and the five individuals were located in the vehicle unharmed. This is an active investigation, and more details will be released as they are known.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office came across this nice gorilla tonight. He was spotted in the Swanville area. He posed for a photo and took off on foot. There is no danger to the public, the gorilla seems to like law enforcement.
Happy Halloween from all of us at the Sheriff’s Office! Use caution if you come to our office today😀
This Halloween we want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience. Some simple precautions can make a difference and create a safer environment for our kids. Here are a few things that parents, and guardians can do to help make this Halloween safe:
• Ensure that children have a visible costume.
• Only Trick or Treat at homes and neighborhoods that you are familiar with.
• Make sure to inspect treats before eating.
• Talk to your children about staying alert and not darting out in front of vehicles.
• Make sure to use sidewalks if you are in town and avoid walking through neighbor’s yards.
• If in town, use crosswalks if available, when crossing streets.
Our hope is that everyone can enjoy this Halloween while having a memorable and enjoyable time.
