WHAT IS IT? The P3 Center's new community action board to promote perinatal and infant health (a.k.a. the health of families, including moms and babies)!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? If you are reading this, then probably YOU! We REALLY want to hear from members of the Niagara community. You don't need to have anything beyond personal experience to play an important role. Do you care about the well-being of families? Do you have something to say? Do you want to DO SOMETHING, but you aren't sure what? This group of people will work together to set goals, take action, and GET RESULTS!

💧Our milk supply is supported by frequent milk removals, either by breastfeeding or pumping often.
▪️When our breasts feel full, that tells our body to make less milk.
▪️When a woman feels supported, relaxed, is hydrated and nourished, her milk will flow.
▪️Often a decrease in milk supply is temporary, like during an illness, a stressful situation (returning to work) and sometimes during ovulation when our cycles return. (This can happen at any time, although some women don’t get their cycle at all when breastfeeding.)
▪️One of the most common causes of low milk supply in the early days is caused by latch issues, like oral ties or birth tension.
▪️Once breastfeeding is well established, a common cause of a dip in milk supply is caused by scheduled feeds and long sleep stretches at night.
🌙 If your are going more than 6 hours between milk removals at night, you will probably see your supply dip. Sometimes the dip is so gradual that it isn’t noticeable right away.
▪️Once of the most common requests I get for consults is around the 4 month well baby check when the weight gain of the baby has stalled.
😳The #1 cause of the low weight gain is sleep training.
▪️Most babies need to eat at night.
▪️Most women need that stimulation during the night when their prolactin hormone levels are highest.
▪️If there are still issues we do want to make sure that there aren’t hormonal, thyroid or insufficient breast tissue challenges.
▪️If you are struggling with your milk supply, please reach out for help. ☎️
