Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club in cooperation with Lodi Lions Club is partnering with the University of the Pacific to provide a Free Hearing Screening Event that will be held on Saturday, January 20th at the UOP Chan Health Sciences Learning Center Audiology Department in Stockton.
90% of those in need of help are not even aware of it! They just go through life, increasing the volume of the TV and Radio, unable to learn and live life to their full potential. They become more frustrated as time goes on, disengaging themselves day-to-day, all because they are experiencing hearing loss, unknowingly. Potential patients will be screened to determine if they are experiencing hearing loss. Since the screening is being held at the UOP Audiology facility, potential patients, that are determined to be in critical need, can be expedited upstairs to the Diagnostic Center testing booths, that very same day! Once it has been determined that potential patients are experiencing hearing loss, the UOP Audiology Department will vet them for needs, ability of financial responsibility for care, and move them through the process of treatment.

Once a patient has been vetted by the UOP Audiology Department, and it’s determined they have no financial ability for treatment through personal funds, health insurance and social programs, our Lodi Lions Club in partnership with the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club will have the opportunity to provide financial help. The application review timeframe will run from March 20th to April 20th, 2024.

Lions 2023 Student Speaker Contest

The Lodi Lions Club recently conducted the local club level of the 86th annual Lions Club Multiple District 4 Student Speakers Contest. The Student Speaker contest is a program that includes most of the 790 local Lions Clubs throughout California. The speech contest topic for 2022-23 is, "Social Media: Connects Us or Isolates Us?”

The Student Speakers contest offers the opportunity for students to earn college scholarship money as they progress through the various levels of speeches within Multiple District 4. The Lions Fourth District Students Speakers Foundation will provide scholarships totaling $103,500. Ultimately, the overall winner will earn $21,000 in scholarship money.

The Lodi Lions Club contest featured Melanie Chavez, Jocelyn Avila, and this year’s winner, Samuel McGregor, all from Lodi High School. All three of speeches were insightful, well researched and presented a unique personal perspective of the speaker and very relevant to anyone curious about or active in social media. Lodi Lions would like to thank the students, faculty and volunteers who contributed to the Student Speakers Contest.

The picture shows, left to right, Lodi Lions Club Past-President Scott Keithley, Student Speaker Chairperson; Melanie Chavez, Samuel McGregor (this year's winner) and Jocelyn Avila, all from Lodi High School.
