LBHS Class of 1972
Contact: Denise Ladner Daniel
Hello everyone. I am a member of the class of 1972 from Long Beach. Our class is sponsoring a fundraiser at USM Gulf Park in Hardy Hall from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 28th. We are raising money for scholarships for Long Beach graduating seniors who will be pursuing post secondary goals after high school. Students who qualify will not be limited to academic studies, but may attend a technical or vocational school. I saw firsthand, as a now retired college counselor, that many students fall through the cracks and do not receive the financial aid that is needed to help them further their career goals. Our class is committed to helping these students. This is my first endeavor with a fundraiser, and I am hoping that all of you might help me with this by spreading the word and coming to the event. Additionally, I, and other classmates, will be selling raffle tickets in the community, as part of this fundraiser, for a chance to win 14 gift cards, with a total value of $566, to various eateries and businesses along the coast. All money that we raise from raffle tickets and the fundraiser at Gulf Park will be given to the 501c3 Long Beach Excellence in Education Fund. They, in turn, disperse the money to the students. At the on-site fundraiser, you will have an opportunity to bid on silent auction items and buy additional raffle tickets for other items that total close to $9000 worth of donations from all along the coast as well as the New Orleans and Mobile area. We will also have a wine pull and bingo games to add to the fun, along with live acoustic guitar entertainment from some of our talented classmates. In further posts, I will show pictures and descriptions of many of these items, and I will show a picture of the tickets that we will be selling, starting next week. I hope that you will help us get the word out and that you will participate in this worthy endeavor. Raffle ticket prices for the 14 gift cards are $10 per ticket or 3 for $25. They include Patio 44, Bulls, Juicy Caboosy, Long Beach Market and Deli, Tony’s Pizzeria, Chopsticks, White Cap, Brooklyn Pizzeria, The Blind Tiger, Domino’s, Silver Slipper Buffet, $50 gift card to Quality Bakery, $50 gift card to Lois’ Flower Shop, and an $80 gift card for one gallon of gumbo from Mary Mahoney’s. Thank you most sincerely for any help that you can give us. Many of these fundraiser items will make great Christmas gifts. Thank you for considering this, and I look forward to hearing from you!
