Today is Memorial Day. This is an official United States holiday to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty fighting for this nation or while in the uniform of this nation. This holiday began life as Decoration Day right after the American Civil War and got its name from the practice of going to the grave yards on the last Monday of May and the Grand Army of the Republic decorating the graves of those who died in the Civil War. By the turn of the century conflicting days of honoring the dead between the Confederates and Union armies led the US to declare one day for all military rememberances. Thus Memorial Day was born.

Let’s keep in mind that this day is dedicated to those who gave their lives while in service of the United States of America.

We have been made aware of a new wrinkle to an ongoing scam. A resident of Gregg County received this "warrant" in the mail. IT IS A FAKE. A warrant will not be mailed to you. If you were to have a warrant, it will be served to you in person. The person that received this did the correct thing and called us to verify. Warrants will never be served by phone or mail, please do not EVER respond to these.
