This past Sunday (August 25th), at our monthly Men's Club meet-up, we watched The Rabbi Goes West, an entertaining and educational film about the work of Chabad Rabbis. If you would like to watch it, it's available for free on YouTube:

Thank you to Rabbi Chaim Bruk for this great film!

An incredible story that was featured in our weekly newsletter this past Friday:

I just heard an incredible story about some of our relatives. Over the past two months, two family members experienced three falls. Following the advice of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, they checked the Mezuzahs in their house. The Rebbe often recommended this when people had incidents, as Mezuzahs are believed to bring protection. They discovered that the words "על הארץ" (which means "on the ground" in English) were faded and nearly erased, along with some other letters. This not only made the Mezuzah unkosher until repaired but was also striking considering the specific words that had worn away, given the nature of the falls. In situations like these, the scroll is either fixed by a professional scribe or replaced (depending on the issue) and we hope they receive many blessings and no further incidents with G-d's help.

The lesson is clear: if your Mezuzahs haven't been checked recently, it's time to have them examined! It’s a quick and inexpensive process. I can refer you to a place in LA or take them with me next time I go. The common practice is to check Mezuzahs once a year, usually in the month of Elul as we prepare for the new Jewish year.

If you don't have Mezuzahs in your home or want more than just one on the front door (Jewish law requires a Mezuzah on every doorway that leads into a proper room, except for the bathroom), feel free to contact me to schedule a time for installation. The scrolls come in a basic case, but if you'd like something more decorative, we can help you find that as well.

Amid the war in Israel and Gaza, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and the Presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, global unrest has made the world appear darker than ever.

Some might think we're heading toward Armageddon, rapture, the end of days, apocalypse, the Day of Judgment, or the resurrection of the dead. What is really going on?

How does Judaism differ from Christianity, Islam, and other major religions on the subject of the Messiah?

The whole world seems to be shaking, and all the major Jewish rabbis and theologians agree: the time is now. There is only one thing that can save us.

Join this journey to enhance your spirituality, based completely on the Torah, the Talmud, Kabbalah, and authentic Hebrew Bible sources.

We’re currently in the Three Weeks, an annual period of mourning in the Jewish calendar that falls during the summer. We remember the destruction of the Holy Temple and the start of our still-ongoing exile. As we look to the future, we also anticipate the rebuilding of the Third Temple.

Today's class focuses on Beit HaMikdash: The Raised Temple. The Holy Temple wasn’t built on flat ground but atop a remarkable structure on a mountain. Was this merely an architectural wonder, or does it hold deeper significance?

See you there at 7pm!

Today in Jewish History: Liberation of R. Yosef Yitzchak (1927)

On the 12th of Tammuz of 1927, the sixth Lubavitcher rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, was officially granted release from his sentence of exile to Kastroma in the interior of Russia.

Twenty-seven days earlier, the Rebbe had been arrested by agents of the GPU and the Yevsektzia ("Jewish Section" of the Communist Party) for his activities to preserve Judaism throughout the Soviet empire and sentenced to death, G-d forbid. International pressure forced the Soviets to commute the sentence to exile and, subsequently, to release him completely. The actual release took place on Tammuz 13, and Tammuz 12-13 is celebrated as a "festival of liberation" by the Chabad-Lubavitch community.

Tammuz 12 is also Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak's birthday.
