"Harlem Nights" is a 1989 crime comedy-drama film written, directed by, and starring Eddie Murphy. The film features Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Danny Aiello, Michael Lerner, Della Reese, and Murphy's older brother Charlie. Released on November 17, 1989, by Paramount Pictures, it tells the story of "Sugar" Ray and Vernest "Quick" Brown running a nightclub in 1930s Harlem while contending with gangsters and corrupt police officials.🖤👑🎬🎥

The film marked Murphy's only directorial effort and fulfilled his desire to star in a period piece and work with Pryor, his stand-up comedy influence. Despite a strong opening, "Harlem Nights" was panned by critics and underperformed at the box office, grossing $60.8 million domestically and $95 million worldwide. Murphy won the Razzie for Worst Screenplay at the 10th Golden Raspberry Awards.
