Golf isnât wasteful. We know this. But non-golfers are prone to thinking the opposite. The data doesnât lie, golf has never been less wasteful. And itâs critical that we start creating ambassadors out of the non-golfing population so we can start steering the conversation in the right direction when it comes to how the game is viewed by outsiders.

On this day 125 years ago (July 27, 1899), representatives from Riverside Polo & Golf Club, Redlands CC, Pasadena CC, Santa Monica GC and The Los Angeles CC met and formed the SCGA. Over a century later our Association is proudly serving over 200,000 members and the regional golf community at large. We love what we do but not as much as who we do it with. Thank you to everyone who has played a role in this historic milestone. Hereâs to another 125!

This is how the LA golf community came together to enact change in a positive story about the responsiveness of our public institutions at a difficult moment in the public square. Tee times were almost impossible to secure, but since L.A. City Golf has implemented a $10 deposit fee, tee times are now more accessible to the general public. 117,389 tee times were booked and canceled in May and June of 2023, but in May and June of 2024 there were only 7,238 times booked and canceled. Our very own Kevin Fitzgerald, who heads the Golf Advisory Committee responsible for recommending the deposit fee, had a front row seat to witness the change and shared the story in a recent episode of NPRâs Imperfect Paradise podcast.
