IMPACT UPDATE FROM ESWATINI ‼️
We’re back & excited to share the affect clean water has had for the 210 community members impacted by our recently implemented project at Masini Site #1.🚰
Thanks to our team on the ground in the Kingdom of eSwatini, this community now has access to a sustainable & safe supply of clean water for years to come. 🇸🇿
This clean water project allows women to better provide for their families & children to spend more time in school to gain a quality education instead of making the daily 3.5km walk to their nearest available source. 📚
Prior to the construction of this freshwater well, our team documented more cases of Cholera, Bilharzia, Diarrhea & Rash each than there were residents. These waterborne diseases came as a result of using the Mkhondvo River, which you may remember from previous posts has significant cross contamination from the use by other communities & animals upstream. 🏥
We believe that clean water is a human right. Join our fight to bring the entire Kingdom of eSwatini access to safe, clean drinking water as quickly as possible. 💧

BEFORE ➡️ AFTER
Today we’re bringing you back to the Kingdom of eSwatini to meet the residents of Esikomu, a community in the western part of the country. 🇸🇿
The only nearby source of water for the 250 members of this community was the unprotected natural spring pictured in the first few slides of this post. 🚰
The use of this contaminated water source led to many documented cases of Cholera & Diarrhea, and resulted in two deaths prior to the implementation of a clean water project. 🏥
This CLEAN and SUSTAINABLE water project is featured in the final few slides of this post! Community members now have access to a safe supply of fresh drinking water that they can rely on. 💧
Water does so much more than just put a smile on someone’s face, it changes everything. 😁
If you’ve ever heard us talk about the water crisis, you are aware that it disproportionately affects women & children that lack access to safe, clean drinking water. 👩👧
This can be seen first hand in the community of Luhlangotsini in the Kingdom of eSwatini 🇸🇿 The task of collecting water from this unprotected water source approximately 1KM away fell on the shoulders of these two residents.
Of the 400+ members of the community, our team in eSwatini documented an overwhelming number of cases of Cholera & Diarrhea as a result of using this source of water that was shared with nearby animals & cross contaminated with other debris during the rainy season. 🏥
After the implementation of a clean water project, there is no longer a need for women & children to make the long walk for water & no risk for any community members of contracting any waterborne diseases. Clean water truly changes everything.💧

Class is in session for students at Luhlangotsini Primary School in the Kingdom of eSwatini. 📝
The daily walk of nearly 2KM to a nearby unprotected spring led to an extremely high rate of Rash & Diarrhea cases amongst the almost 300 students. 🏥
Today, students get to spend their entire school day in the classroom gaining a quality education rather than collecting water from a contaminated source. 📚
That’s the we’ll raise our hands to! 🙌
¡Bienvenidos a El Salvador! 🇸🇻
We wanted to give you an up close look at the ‘drilling phase’ of our well implementation process from one of our projects in El Salvador. 🔍
You can see a borehole that is 6 inches wide being drilled at a depth of approximately 45 meters (almost 150 feet) through sandy loam soil (mixture of 40% sand, 40% silt & 20% clay) that also has limestone present further down. 🪨
The drilling rig works by using a high pressure combination of water & mud to lubricate the drill bit as well as soften the soil as the bit breaks through the different layers of subsoil. Simultaneously, the rig uses suction to pull all of the sediment that comes out of the borehole to the surface. 💦
While the rig works to reach its intended depth, technicians are onsite to ensure that the speed and torque force of the high pressure water does not decrease. Technicians are also responsible for controlling the installation & change of each of the drill bits necessary to complete the drilling process. 👷
The drilling processes through this sandy loam soil found in El Salvador is very delicate and varies from project to project. Even the smallest error can cause the drill bits to get stuck as they attempt to reach their target depth, or cause the sandy walls inside the freshly drilled borehole to collapse. 😰
This is a meticulous process that is done slowly & carefully which requires constant monitoring the pressure, speed and torque force of the drill bit inside, and then adjustments to be made whenever necessary depending on the type of soil that is found in the drilling process. 📊
The end result? A sustainable freshwater well that provides safe, clean drinking water to a community that needs it most. 💧

March 1st marks the beginning of World Water Month here for us at 🌎💦
But the real reason we love March 1st so much, is because we get to celebrate BIRTHDAY 🥳🎂🎉
Sibu is our Country Director for the Kingdom of eSwatini and oversees every phase of each project our team implements. 📝
If you’ve ever been lucky enough to meet Sibu at the annual or by visiting , you know that he is one of the kindest, happiest and most fun people that most of us have ever had the chance to meet. 🫶
We’re lucky to call Sibu our colleague, our friend and our brother! Make sure to drop some Birthday love for Sibu in the comments below. 🤝

Monday’s can be tiring, especially the night after the , for those of you who enjoyed the big game yesterday. 😪
But could you imagine waking up today and having to walk over 3km to this lake in northern Uganda, just to collect your first glass of water in the morning? I think all of our Super Bowl Sundays might look a little different if THIS was our only local source of water. 🧐
These pics are from Apii Dyang, a community of just over 1,200 residents in the Amolatar district of Uganda. Before our team in Uganda was able to implement a clean water project, residents were exposed to waterborne diseases including Bilharzia (also known as Schistosomiasis), Typhoid & diarrhea that unfortunately resulted in multiple deaths. 😔
Fortunately for you all & our friends in Apii Dyang this is not how ANY of you will have spent your Monday morning. 🥳
Swipe through to the final slide to see the clean water source that they now rely on for access to safe, clean drinking water indefinitely - all thanks to the support of our community!! 💦

Did you notice that our last few posts have featured one specific community from Kenya? We want to formally introduce you to our friends at Namayiama Children’s Home just south east of Nairobi, Kenya. 🇰🇪
The young men & women a part of this community attend Olosho Oibor Primary School and had to make the daily climb uphill of more than 1KM to their nearest available water source, which was a shallow pond covered with a mesh tarp to keep out as much debris as possible. 🚶♂️🚶♀️
Following the implementation of a clean water project nearby, these 100+ students are able to now spend that time working through different lessons & assignments with their professor and classmates. How’s that for some 🙌
We’ve said it before & we’ll say it again - clean water changes everything. 💧
‼️ guess who’s back with ⁉️ (it’s us) and today we’re headed to Pennsylvania and the Chocolate 🍫 capital of the world - Hershey, PA!
Our young leaders at are hosting their 9️⃣th Annual Walk for Water 🚶♀️ later this year with a goal of raising $20,000.💧
In their history, students a part of the Thirst Project club at Hershey High School have raised more than $120,000 - 100% of which has been used to fully fund 10 water projects across the world! 🌍
This puts them in an elite group of Thirst Project clubs who have raised more than $100K for clean water projects to date, joining FOUR other schools. We think that deserves a round of applause for the many generations of student leaders in Hershey, PA who contributed to this impressive feat. 👏
