The final days of our closing exhibits are here. closes SATURDAY so it’s your last opportunity to view this print by Art Wolfe, Inc. “Zebras are pure graphic design,” he says. “The contrast of dark and light lines create an abstraction that invites us to forget the subject and simply enjoy the rhythms.” Art Wolfe is an award-winning and internationally renowned photographer based in Seattle, Washington. Art is prolific in his work with over 100 published works, including his magnum opus “Earth Is My Witness.” He travels nearly nine months out of the year photographing for new projects, leading photographic tours and seminars, and giving inspirational presentations. "Despite all I have seen and experienced, I still get the same simple thrill out of glimpsing a tiny patch of snow in a high mountain gully and feel the same urge to climb toward it." ~Edmund Hillary Photo by Marc Levine
Only FIVE more days to explore our current exhibit , featuring this image by Dale Reid. “The oyster mushrooms captured my imagination because of their bizarre shapes, alien textures and intricate detail,” she shared. Dale Reid uses dark room techniques to imbue her botanical subjects with unimaginable personality and emotion. Her studies utilize different elements to produce sensual and whimsical portraits in high contrast with a keen eye for texture, form, and framing. Elegant white or black backgrounds highlight her subjects, allowing them to monopolize the photographs, filling the space with their unique voices and stories. Once having to juggle her photography and finance careers, Dale was at last able to shape her distinct artistic voice, inspired partially by her life partner’s diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, and her own experiences as a transgender woman. Visit before Saturday to see this image in person! We are open every day 10 AM – 6 PM.

Photo by Kristen Westlake, Fine Art Photographer.
This photo in captured by Matthew Kuhns Photography is a beautiful wintery expression of finding patterns in nature. Behind the shot: “Ithilden is a magical substance from the mind of J.R.R. Tolkien,” says Matthew. “It is only visible in moonlight and is made of mithril, a metal more precious than platinum. I captured ‘Ithilden’ on the frozen shores of Lake Michigan on a cold winter night which was lit only by the glow of a full moon. Under the moon’s soft light, the ice became something more and appeared to glow from within and bubbles trapped were rimmed with silver fire. It felt like I had been transported to a magical place, and Ithilden is the only word I could use to describe it.” Matthew Kuhns is a photographer and aerospace engineer based in Santa Clarita, California who travels the world exploring new terrain and photographing landscapes. He has participated in many group exhibitions at G2, and has two photos on view in “Designed Environment,” open through December 23.

Today’s spotlight is this “Lone Gull” photo captured by Bell Images Fine Art Photography on the Oregon Coast. Jan Bell’s work reveals an intimate view of the natural world, reaching into the subtle beauty within a form. Each photo represents an opportunity to consider the subject, almost apart from its meaning or function. Whether it be the inner folds of a plant, a sand-swept dune, or a distant coastline, Jan reveals only as much as he cares to share. Jan’s love of the wilderness has been a constant throughout his life. His pursuit of landscape images has taken him all over North America, typically photographing for weeks or months at a time. This love of the land, coupled with a love of fine art photography, combine to make his expressive prints. Throughout Jan’s sixteen-year career, his work has exhibited in various galleries throughout the U.S.

This moody “Yosemite Layer Cake” photo is our feature of the day! Taken by Wasim Of Nazareth Photography, he says the "image has three starkly contrasting layers and textures; a background of slick snowy mountainside, a foreground comprised of a set of silhouetted pine trees, and a layer of rolling clouds that just hovered right in between them.” Wasim Muklashy is an award-winning nature, travel and conservation photographer and virtual reality video producer. He spent several years producing marketing and commercial multimedia packages for various Fortune 500 companies before turning his focus to his true passion—documenting and sharing the world’s natural spaces through the medium of photography. Since then, Wasim has created photography and video assets for clients including the National Park Service, California State Parks, and Outdoor Project. He is currently living in the Pacific Northwest working with various nature organizations on virtual reality projects focused on our natural world, and has re-dedicated his life to stoking the curiosity of a new generation of children by introducing them to nature, science, and how we are all connected to it.

We love this “Fairy Castle” photo on view in . Taken by Tom Daniel, he says, “Spring flow erodes an ice fall in the Hiawatha National Forest near Munising, MI. A frozen waterfall becomes a fairy castle in the spring melt!” In the early 1980s, Tom Daniel began bringing cameras on his trips to the arctic, whitewater boating, and hiking in the American Southwest. By 1993, he had become more serious about his photography. The use of medium and large format cameras, slow fine grain film, and the patience to pay attention to details are the ingredients for producing his sharp, vivid landscape images. While all scenic locations interest him, Tom is most prolific and creative in a desert environment, particularly the American Southwest. As one who likes variety, Tom also photographs extensively in coastal New England, Michigan, Nova Scotia, and Scotland.

Another incredible photograph on view in our exhibit! “Ancient Veins” was taken at the Portland Japanese Garden in Oregon by Moshe Levis Photography. Moshe provided some insight into this detailed image: “The Japanese Maple tree is one of the most magnificent and inspiring trees I have ever seen. When I set down, facing the Japanese Maple, I witnessed a magnificent contrast that separated the tree from the earth beneath and the sky above as if it was hovering in a spiritual realm, growing eternally. I found myself laying on the muddy ground in the rain, kneeling in front of the tree until it hurt, shooting at different focal lengths and focusing on parts that most people take for granted. The posture of the tree and the way it spread its branches and leaves in my frame made me wonder how generations before me saw it and how generations after me will see it. Just like the veins that stretch through every inch in our bodies, this Japanese Maple tree stretches back through ancient times, growing slowly. Forever.” Come see it in person in our gallery, on view through Saturday, December 23.
Only a few more weeks to see our exhibit, featuring this “Pink Coat” photograph by Alex Cederquist. Alex was born and raised in Napa Valley, California. After graduating from Cal Poly with a business degree, a psychic told Alex’s mom that Alex’s life wouldn’t start until he got a camera and moved to the city. Shortly afterward, both had become reality. After four years of exploring and experimenting, Alex is a self-taught photographer who has won first place in the Napa County Fair for best landscape photo for two years running. Now living in Los Angeles, Alex enjoys working in finance and taking photographs whenever possible. Even in LA, Alex’s photography focuses on nature, wildlife, and the hidden beauty in unforeseen places. On view through December 23!
The macrophotogaphy on view in our “The Gottlieb Native Garden: A Closer Look” exhibit is incredible! The details revealed in the close-ups photographed by Scott Logan showcase the many types of flora and fauna found in this urban oasis. Scott Logan has been a nature lover since childhood and knows our native wildlife intimately, with birds always being the focus of his attention. Scott is a co-owner of Wild Wings Backyard Nature located in Sherman Oaks, CA, and whether he’s educating communities in the ways of nature, reviewing someone’s yard or leading a bird walk, he is always ready to help connect enthusiasts to the wildlife that thrives in Southern California. Scott is a self-taught photographer with a background in graphic arts, which helped him develop a good eye for photography. Scott began photographing in Los Angeles to further educate others on the diverse wildlife found in the area, and this led to his passion for macrophotography. His photographs will be on view through Saturday, December 23.

An important message from G2 Owners Dan & Susan Gottlieb:
Earlier this year, we announced we were closing The G2 Gallery to transition to a digital platform. We thought we had the timing right, but it turned out to be premature.
We knew after ten years in Venice, with a very loyal following, we wanted to cast a wider net in order to share our mission with a larger audience.
We've been working hard to come up with a way to approach difficult environmental issues through an online platform so we can engage the uninitiated. Once our new site is live, we will let you know. In the meantime, we will be closing the gallery doors on Saturday, December 23, 2017.
We hope that you will take this time to come out and see us one last time! We have two fascinating and beautiful exhibits, "The Gottlieb Native Garden: A Closer Look," featuring Scott Logan’s stunning macrophotography, and "Designed Environment," a group exhibit featuring many up-and-coming photographers as well as beloved past-exhibiting artists. Photographs make impressionable holiday presents and are valuable investments!
Our gallery gift store is chock-full of stocking stuffers and one-of-a-kind gifts suitable for everyone on your list! With our 40% Off Everything close-out sale happening throughout the month of December, you will take away the last of G2’s unique offerings at unbeatable prices.
Thank you for your support throughout the years. We are grateful for your continued contributions towards a sustainable environment, the greatest gift we can give future generations.

This exhibit cycle, we have two nonprofit partners: California Native Plant Society and Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers & Native Plants. CNPS focuses on the preservation and appreciation of California’s indigenous vegetation. Founded in 1965, CNPS relies on local chapters and member outreach efforts to protect California’s native plant species. Theodore Payne Foundation promotes the preservation of California’s native plants with an ancillary focus on water conservation and restoring wildlife habitats. The Foundation operates a year-round retail nursery, offering the region’s largest and most interesting selection of California native plants, as well as an Education Center and Outreach program that offers classes and field trips for adults and children.
