Do You Have Poor Grip Strength?

If you’ve noticed a decline in your ability to grip things, it’s time to start including grip strength training into your routines.

According to research cited in the Self magazine article, "Why Your Grip Is Weak—and How to Fix It" by Lauren Bodosky, Bodosky indicates that “Research shows grip strength is a good predictor of overall strength, which in turn serves as a good predictor for overall health, including cardiovascular disease risk.”

“In one large-scale study published in the journal The Lancet, findings revealed that lack of grip strength is a stronger predictor for death from any cause, including cardiovascular disease, than systolic blood pressure (the pressure in your arteries when your heart contracts).”

5 Exercises To Improve Grip Strength

1. Any pulling exercise! Think rowing or pulldowns
2. Pull-ups
3. Farmer’s Carry (unilateral & bilateral)
4. Bicep Curls (Two curling variations are the Zotman DB Curl or DB Hammer Curl)
5. Deadlifts

💥 Physioball Pushups: The stability ball push-up is an amazing, dynamic exercise to strengthen the deep core stabilizers of your trunk. You also get all the benefits of a traditional push-up.

🔹Try it like this:
Begin in plank position with your arms extended straight.
Then slowly lower your chest towards the ball for a count of 3 seconds.
Next explosively push up to plank for a count of 1.

🔹Cadence for this exercise is 3/0/1
▪️ Descent - 3 seconds.

▪️ Pause at bottom of movement - 0 seconds.

▪️ Ascent - 1 second.
