Dear SCA Graduating Students,
While the last few weeks have been difficult with considerable confusion around graduation, I want to assure you that we will be holding the School of Cinematic Arts Commencement Ceremony, as planned, at the Shrine Auditorium on May 10th at 2:30pm. We promise to do as much as we can to make sure that you and your families and supporters have a wonderful day. Your faculty, staff and I look forward to celebrating with you and handing you your well-earned degrees!
Some of you have already picked up tickets to the SCA ceremony. However, the university planning committee is establishing new protocols that may require different tickets. We will update you on how to access those tickets in the coming days. Be assured you will be able to attend the ceremony. However, please continue to check the SCA commencement website, and your email, for the latest information.
USC is still finalizing key details of activities that will occur on the main campus on commencement day. Important information regarding ticketing, parking, the required clear bag policy, and other details will be posted to the USC commencement website. The planning committee has said they will finalize details by Tuesday, April 30.
Please continue to check both websites for the latest information, including how to contact your SCA division if you have unique questions or challenges.
My sincere congratulations to you. In spite of everything going on, we will have the kind of celebration you deserve.
Sincerely,
Dean Elizabeth M. Daley

“I never really thought there was room to create a new special event that could be done annually. So, for future co-directors and student leaders, just to know that, nothing is set in stone and don't listen to people when they say you can't do something. If you have the motivation to do something, put in the time, and I feel like really anything can be accomplished — you can always exceed your own expectations for yourself if you just at least try.” - Candace House
Meet Candace House, the Business of Cinematic Arts (BCA) student who made history by co-directing USC's first Black Student Career Fair this year to kick off Black History Month. About the Class:
CTPR 484 is a large intensive group production class where the practical application for producing a multi-camera television comedy Pilot is experienced. The class will prep, shoot, post and deliver a 30-minute comedy Pilot which is shot in front of a live audience in typical sit-com fashion. Students and faculty work together addressing the myriad aesthetic, technical, collaborative and ethical issues integral to making a comedy Pilot. The Pilot derives from a treatment that is pitched and picked prior to the fall semester and the class works closely with the CTWR 487 writing students who will create the final script. Multiple crew positions and skills ranging from Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, and Stage Managing are taught by Experienced and working Television professionals. CTPR 484 provides a unique opportunity at SCA to learn about and create Comedy Television and more specifically Sitcom production.
