Could be the biggest 206 race ever
Another great weekend for Jack!!
My favorite race weekend of the year. Monaco, Indy, The 600, Trans Am and NHRA
Colin at Monaco. Can’t believe it’s been 17 years. Time goes by so fast it’s almost unfair
Another old picture. We didn’t get many pictures of on track action back then compared to now. But this one of the few I have and it’s my favorite.
1982 Fountain Valley GP race at Mile Square Park. I entered Superstock Heavy and Light. Won both.
Heavy was pretty easy. But light was a lot harder. It was the first race up to senior for Johnny Meyers and Robbie Flock.
Johnny was the Son of Walt Meyers of Meyers Racing Engines and had been dominate as a junior. Robbie was also a great driver and was driving for Bill Adkins from Adkins Speed Shop. Robbie went on to have a great career in Midgets for years.
I had been watching them race since I started. Best analogy would be like racing Colin and Scott Speed their first day up. So I was definitely up for the challenge.
It was my sixth year racing. By then I was building my own engines. About two years in I realized the people building my engines didn’t want me to win as bad as I did. I couldn’t afford to do anything else. So I had to learn. I had some good teachers. Thanks to Jesse Poe and Gary Hartman.
I was pretty much just a garage guy, or a hobbyists racing against a lot of shop guys. And there was a ton of shops in SoCal at the time. So I plenty of great competition.
I had never been to a national and was doing some club racing and region 7 regional races and special events like this and the Queen Mary. Later I won the New Cuyama street race two years in a row. And once in awhile I was getting to drive some lay down karts for Norm Barto that had some good karts but was afraid of them. We did Long Beach and Phoenix with the Indy cars with his twin. The Long Beach race was a great story also. I share that later.
At that race I was running a LMR 100cc reed valve engine that no one else was running at the time. It had an all aluminum pipe built by Susie Q Beshear’s dad Nelson. Robbie was running a rotary Parrilla. Johnny was running a Yamaha at a lighter weight.
This is a picture of the last lap of light. I had passed Johnny the lap before on the outside of the same turn. Then I caught Robbie. I slid in on entry and got alongside. We rubbed wheels (not body work🙄) on exit pretty good and I beat him to the checker. As I was getting off the scale I see Robbie’s dad coming, quickly. I’m thinking oh s**t. First thing he says is “that was awesome! Good job”
Fun weekend
Find Waldo
1980 at Corona Speedway dirt series. Only time raced Gary Emmick
1980 race at the Queen Mary. I’m in the silver helmet wearing my favorite gloves😎
When men were men no plastic bumpers. If you drove like an idiot it hurt. The racing was way cleaner.
We did that two years in a row. Really fun weekend. We spent the night on the ship
Congrats to Andrew Herberholz on his first J1 win. He made an awesome last lap pass.
It's great having a bunch of talented Junior Drivers. These kids work hard and race hard. We had podium sweeps both days in Junior 1
Good Job Yutaka Sonoda, Rosco Smidt, Charlie O'Neill, Arran Speirs and Madilynn Weber
Hey Doug I’m sending our very best engine. Please take good care of it and make it fast 😳
Win on Sunday, work on Monday 😳🤷🏼♂️
Hey Doug will you set my carb.
😳🔥
Caution ⚠️
blatant self promotion
Back to racing in the PNW after winter hibernation, TCKC club race in Richland Washington had over 120 entries with top finishes in senior, J2 and J1 categories. Big tune up race for Padholder Cup in two weeks
Congrats to Tr3y on another win
Congrats to Rosco Smidt on his win. Nice pass!
And a big shout out to Jack Grote Racing getting a podium in is first senior race
Good Job Guys 💰💰
Predator KId Kart engines for Spokane. Cool little engine. It’s a lot smaller than the 206. A lot better fit for a Kid Kart
Hey Doug do you do the Briggs LO206?
What do you do when Honda is worthless. 79cc Predator. Runs about the same. On the track for less than $300. 😳
So for over 10 years I’ve done a ton of Honda GX390’s for the Trophykarts. I’ve always been the sole supplier for the series. I seal them to keep the Dad’s out of them and they are basically stock except for a big carb, manifold and pipe.
That took them from 13hp to about 25. Always a good setup.
Now they have started a series in Cabo San Lucas with them. But the changed the rules to only one rule. 420cc and that’s it 😎
So……. Game on
😳🥸
They run a CVT or torque converter. So they only rev to 4000 - 4500. All the modifications I did were to make more power there.
So with a stroked crank that got it to 418cc, a high torque cam, flat top piston and more timing it’s amazing. Picked up 10 horsepower and a huge amount of low rpm torque.
These are incredible engines. And they pull the 550 lb karts around pretty good.
We will see how the no rule thing goes. That how I originally got the exclusive deal with CORR 15 years ago.
They originally said no rules. So I took Zane Smith a couple times all cheated up and on nitro. Then they realized there needed to be some control. So I got the deal and have been doing it ever since.
Another batch fresh from the oven. Anyone looking for a really good powder coating service I have a guy.
*Warning* More blatant self promotion 😎
Last weekend We went to the Showdown in Phoenix. It was last big Briggs 206 race of the year.
Had some pretty good results and had some great racing. Awesome event!
206 Cadet
2nd Yutaka Sonoda
206 Sportsman
2nd Ryan Queen
206 Junior
2nd Gavin Crutcher
4th Jack Grote
206 senior
1st Tr3y Arnzen
7th Riley Miller (from 27th)
206 legends
2nd Ken Queen
Tr3y, Jack, Riley and Yutaka were all running the latest version of the 206 with the new short block. I’ve done 12 of these now and they are a little better. The bore looks amazing after break-in and the piston and ring clearance is proper now. The bottom spins now like butter 😎
I’m still doing an off season special on those. $990 and $30 shipping. All broken-in, Blueprinted and dynoed. Every Engine gets the same effort. No special Engines for shop Drivers . I want everyone to win 🏆
I’m also doing rebuilds for $240 $30 shipping. Includes cleaning, freshen and blueprint head and carb. Also included is Dyno. I can compare yours to what the new ones are doing. 3/10’s of a horsepower is 3/10’s on the track.
Taking care of business at CKNA. 🤣
Got to see this. I did the heads for this when I was working at HPD. The 100th running of the 500
I'm working on a Briggs with the new block and seal location. They also fixed the small screw that holds the tin cover over the plug. It's now 5mm. Much better.
I'm sure the changes are going to make it way faster 😎😳 🥄
Good Job Riley!!!!!!! Great weekend
