Asian American Studies Pathways Project
The Asian American Studies Pathways Project (AASPP) aims to increase student success and foster a strong ethnic studies culture at CSUN.
We're teaming up with tomorrow! Join us at the Glenn Omatsu House as we make phone calls and write letters to elected US officials about the protests in Iranโผ๏ธ
If you can't make it to the protest in Downtown Los Angeles for the international day of action, this is a great way to still get involved.
Bring stamps and envelopes!๐ฉ We've got everything else covered - including scripts, phone numbers, and office addresses of elected officials.โ๏ธ
Via Persian Diaspora Connect:
"Solidarity with the Iranian people is imperative right now, as protests continue! This is a turning point in history and it's our duty as members of the global diaspora to stand behind them."
Sanctions are not the answer! U.S. military intervention is not the answer! These are counter-intuitive and end up harming those already vulnerable. Join us as we discuss and advocate for solutions that center the needs and freedom of the Iranian people.

The Omatsu House will be CLOSED this Monday, September 5, for Labor Day! ๐งโ๐ง House Hours will continue Tuesday, September 6, from 10am to 2pm.
The first American Labor parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882 and was organised by New York Cityโs Central Labor Union to celebrate a โworkingmenโs holiday.โ While some states passed legislation officially recognising the holiday, Congress failed to legalise the holiday until after the Pullman Strike of 1894 in which workers of the Pullman Palace Car Company went on strike to protest wage cuts and the firing of union representatives. To break the strike, the federal government dispatched troops to Chicago which resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen workers. To quell the anger of American workers, Congress passed an act making Labor Day a holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.
While many of us are able to enjoy a day off on Labor Day, the holiday in itself is nothing more than a symbolic victory. Millions of workers across the country are still fighting and organising for fair wages and better working conditions. While placing your next Amazon order or before going on your daily Starbucks run, do a quick search on how YOU can support their workersโ unionising efforts!
Stop by the Glenn Omatsu House and take a look at our Resource Library to learn more about labor, capitalism, and how to organise! ๐
Hereโs a quick ๐จ collection of photos ๐ธ๐ from our events ๐ช last semester! Be sure to stay tuned ๐ป for future ๐ฎ event announcements ๐ฃ Meanwhile, hereโs a preview ๐ณ of what to expect! ๐ค
Drop by the Omatsu House ๐ก this week! Weโre open ๐ Monday-Wednesday from 10am - 2pm, Thursdays 10am - 12pm and 3pm - 5pm. Weโre closed ๐ on Fridays except by appointment ๐ or event ๐ญreservation. Contact ๐ us through email ๐ง ([email protected]) or Instagram DMs ๐ to reserve!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Understanding Democracy in the Philippines Kapwa Chat this past Wednesday! We collectively discussed how rampant disinformation, cheating, and human rights violations perpetrated by the Philippine government and lackeys to the ruling elite led to a Marcos-Duterte victory. To deepen our analysis of the conditions that paved the way for a new fascist dictatorship, we identified the role of the three basic problems (U.S. imperialism, bureaucrat capitalism, and feudalism) as the basis for this illegitimate victory. We emphasized in this educational discussion that the masses are not to blame for the election of Marcos-Duterte, but the oppressive and violent conditions of Philippine society are the reason!
We, as Anakbayan LA and Asian American Studies Pathways Project, encourage youth and students to use this education to advance the national democratic movement! We learned that the electoral system is rigged by the ruling elite and we need to redirect our efforts to go beyond the ballot box! We invite agitated youth and students to join the national democratic movement to fight for genuine democracy and liberation from the three basic problems in the Philippines!
In less than one hour, at 6 pm, Anakbayan LA in collaboration with the CSUN Asian American Studies Pathways Project, will be hosting a Kapwa Chat discussing the false โvictoryโ of Marcos and Duterte in the recent Philippine election, as well as a discussion around conditions that have caused these recent events.
This event is hybrid, with both an in person option located at the Glenn Omatsu House, and an online option. Please make sure to RSVP (link in our bio) in order to receive information regarding Zoom! Hope to see yaโll there!
TONIGHT Anakbayan Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Asian American Studies Pathway Project at CSUN, will be holding an educational discussion surrounding the 2022 Philippine election and the sham โvictoryโ of the Marcos-Duterte tandem. We will be discussing what factors lead to the โwinโ of the children of dictators, as well as concrete ways we can take action to fight against this regime.
