We are living in very divisive and turbulent times. No matter who you are, how you identify, or where you live in this country, race has played a role in your life. Enter writing to build racial literacy. CWP's Pre-Convention Day will open with a morning keynote session, Holding the Line, What a Line Holds: Notes on Poetry, Critical Ethnic Studies, and Lyrics of Possibility, presented by Jason Magabo Perez, Ph.D.

Through film, poetics, essay, and other modes of storytelling, Jason Magabo Perez, Ph.D. explores the poetic line as a space of possibility for self-determination, dignity, and critical witness. Enacting the urgent creativity in what the Critical Ethnic Studies Collective has termed a "radical intellectual openness," Perez models a praxis and poetics of anticolonial future-making.
