Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel

Sephardic Temple is a modern synagogue in the Sephardic tradition in Los Angeles.

It maintains its own unique blend of authentic traditional Judaism with openness to the opportunities and challenges of modern life. A Sephardic synagogue where tradition meets modern American Jewish religious expression. Founded by a small group of Sephardic, Ladino speaking immigrants in 1920, we have grown into a full service congregation, with a membership representing a diverse international cultural background, including Sepharadim and Ashkenazim.

In times of turmoil, let us unite in solidarity and hope. As we receive distressing news, our hearts ache for those affected by recent events. Yet, amidst the darkness, let us remember our shared humanity and the power of compassion. This message from the President of Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel resonates deeply with our values of peace and understanding. Let us stand together, not against a people, but against actions that threaten peace. Our prayers extend to all affected, in Israel, in Iran, and beyond. Together, may we be a beacon of hope, supporting one another through these trials. Join us in prayer for peace, safety, and stability. Together, let us strive for a world where unity triumphs and compassion lights our way. 🤍

In memory of Senator Joseph Lieberman, a beacon of leadership and unwavering dedication to his faith, family, and country. His visit to Sephardic Temple in 2018 remains a cherished moment, where his profound wisdom and passion for Jewish-American identity resonated deeply with our community. As we reflect on his legacy, let us honor his commitment to bridging cultures and advocating for peace. Rest in peace, Senator Lieberman. Your spirit will forever inspire us. 🕊️🌟

Wisdom from Rabbi Cohen on Parasha Tzav 💙

03/28/2024

Yesterday, the world bid farewell to a luminous spirit. I’m deeply grateful for the privilege of hosting former Senator and Democratic Vice Presidential nominee, Joseph Lieberman, at Sephardic Temple in May 2018 as our distinguished speaker of the year. His departure the next day to attend the historic US embassy opening in Jerusalem stands as one of his many lifetime achievements. A true mensch and a towering figure in American politics, he lived a life guided by faith in G-D, devotion to family, and love for country. His eloquence, wisdom, and even his humor were profoundly uplifting. Senator Lieberman’s visit remains etched in our memories, where he passionately delved into the complexities of Jewish-American identity, urging us to navigate the delicate balance between being American and Jewish. His insights on Israel, the Middle East, and domestic Jewish identity continue to resonate. Heaven has gained an angel, but his legacy will forever illuminate our path. May his memory be a blessing. 🕊️🙏
