If there's a better way to spend 90 minutes than lounging in Robin Walker's studio and steeping in his wisdom, we haven't found it. Thanks, Robin, for another wonderful and thought provoking training.
TTC and CTC bid a fond farewell to Lea Estién Garcia. During her time with us, Lea made a significant impact through our Therapy on Campus program, offering free therapy to students at Magnolia Charter Science Academy. She also demonstrated exceptional dedication by juggling a full-time workload and studies with seeing clients in the office. Our mission to provide affordable therapy and free therapy to children at our partner schools would not be possible without the contributions of dedicated trainees like Lea. Thank you, Lea, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Child & Teen Counseling’s Haley Scher has officially completed her masters program and is bidding adieu to us this month. We’re sad to see her go but very proud of the impact she has left behind. Haley’s work with our kids and teens was top notch. She also built our High School Girls Group into a buzzing hub of support and empowerment. None of it was easy, so what were the secrets to her success? Find out in this 90 second Haleymentary. Thank you Haley, we’ll miss you!
Happy Hanukkah from Child & Teen Counseling!
Happy Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving from your pals here at Child & Teen Counseling.
Half way done with our group interviews for the Spring 2024 Cohort of new therapists to train. We met some AMAZING candidates from several grad schools. We’ve got several more to meet and each person seems wonderful! Bring it on candidates! Make this the hardest season to pick just four therapist to join our team!!! So grateful and excited to mentor the next generation of child and teen therapists! 😊
So excited to begin the first of many group interviews with grad students who may join our non-profit 501 c3 organization, Child & Teen Counseling. I always look forward to meeting and mentoring the next generation of child therapists. 😃
Had a super fun time at our annual staff picnic at Chumash Park in Agoura a couple of weekends ago. It was a great burrito throwing, frisbee tossing end of summer bash. Thanks to all for coming out in the heat!
Thank you the the amazing Barbara Calvi, LMFT for the fantastic training on couples therapy at Teen Therapy Center and Child & Teen Counseling today.
We had a great little draft party this morning for our office fantasy football league, Bruised Ego. Once again however the draft grades-bot got it all wrong...
Peter Merrell is a therapist trainee here at Child & Teen Counseling who started seeing clients in Spring. He’s a really pleasant, easy guy to talk to, but he happens to be a talented listener as well. Learning all about his clients is one of Peter’s favorite things about therapy for kids, so he’s definitely in the right place. Find out why Peter enjoys working with teens and who he believes are their biggest supporters in this short video
We’re pleased to announce The BroOp, our new group for high school aged guys at Child & Teen Counseling. With the group start date fast approaching on Monday, July 17th at 7pm, we decided to check in on progress with its facilitators Ben Lewis and Seif Jarrah.
Surprisingly, things weren’t really going as we expected. We managed to capture the whole debacle in this engaging video. Don’t miss it! Know any high school guys interested in finding a supportive and empowering space to connect and grow? Contact Seif or Ben.
Seif Jarrah is a promising recent addition to our organization. With three months of experience under his belt, Seif has quickly found his footing. But what sets him apart? What drives him, and how does he access his own inner child to connect with the children he works with on a deeper level?
Discover the insights of this compassionate and introspective young fellow in this short video.
We're pleased as punch to announce our therapy group just for girls in High School. But what exactly happens in this group, and how can it benefit your daughter's mental health journey?
Watch our informative video with trainee and group facilitator Haley Scher and find out! Learn how group therapy can offer unique advantages over individual therapy. Trust us, your daughter won't want to miss out on this supportive and safe space where she can connect with like-minded peers and work through common challenges together. Enroll her in our High School Girls Group today and let's help her thrive! Questions? Inquiries? Contact Haley Scher.
The High School Girls Group happens Saturdays at noon and costs $30/session plus one time intake fee, normally $80. Haley Scher is a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee supervised by Kent Toussaint, M.A. L.M.F.T. #44685 L.P.C.C. #235.
Haley Scher has become a vital member of Child & Teen Counseling since she began seeing clients in March. If working with kids, teens and families were a rodeo, you could say she really took the bull by the horns! Haley also courageously assumed the responsibility of facilitating our High School Girls Group too. So, what makes her job so interesting, and how does she do it? We ask tough questions and get into the mind of Haley in this short video.
At what point should I consider antidepressants for my teen?
“My daughter is 15 and she’s been struggling with depression on and off for about a year now. She’s in therapy, but I don’t really think she’s making any progress. I’m wondering if we should consider antidepressants and what you think some of the pros and cons are. I’ve heard they can lead to suicidal thoughts and I’m concerned about that as a side effect. How do I know if I should consider medication for her?”

“Now that summer break has started, it feels like anything goes with my daughter. She’s been staying out late with her friends and spending far too much time on screens even though we talked about her doing other things to keep her busy. I tried discussing this with her but she just gave me an eye roll, got snarky and blew me off. I long for the days when I felt connected and we understood each other better. Any help you can give me with this rebellious teenager?”
