Stress. The six-letter word that can make our lives miserable. The ways we cope with stress can reduce the impact on our mental health, but if we rely on less healthy coping strategies, we may end up feeling worse and reinforcing the very emotion we had hoped to ditch.
Coping with stress through a variety of strategies is an ideal approach. Try to use several methods of stress reduction that incorporate care for your mind, body, and spirit.

Couples who find themselves falling into the habit of making assumptions about their partner or relationship can work on improving communication.Β
Couples can retrain themselves to notice when they are making assumptions and start to ask important questions to build understanding of their partnerβs thoughts and feelings.
Asking and sharing brings couples closer and removes dangerous assumptions that can cause rifts over time and create complacency and resentment.Β

Even though we have no say in how we are biologically wired for attachment, we can find ways to work around an anxious or avoidant attachment style and people-pleasing tendencies. As with most things related to mental health, it starts with awareness.

The ways we connect, bond and reciprocate love is commonly known as attachment. People who have healthy attachment abilities in adulthood often have had positive attachment experiences in childhood.
From the time we are in utero and throughout our childhood the way our parents and caregivers respond to our needs, offer affection and acknowledge our presence impacts the way we perceive ourselves and respond to others.
Attachment starts at the beginning of our lives and develops throughout the lifespan.

When we can identify what we need and then figure out how to get there, our quality of life improves dramatically. Our self care plans can reflect elements of mindfulness as well as any other aspects of self expression or relaxation that can bring us closer to our sense of self.
So how will you practice self care and mindful living today? Paying attention to and honoring your own needs will bring you greater peace, satisfaction and self respect. β¨
It is so hard to sit by and watch a friend who is suffering because of a dysfunctional relationship. When you are the concerned friend, you may find that your emotions about the situation vary. It can be a helpless feeling as an observer. It may even strain your patience at times.
You may find yourself dwelling excessively on your friendβs challenges. Make sure you are taking care of yourself first, since you cannot offer support if you are emotionally and physically depleted.
The perfect words to start a new week. β¨

If you have struggled with depression and notice a seasonal pattern, you are not alone. Even if it has been a long-standing struggle, you can get relief from your symptoms and improve your quality of life.
Sometimes getting started is difficult, particularly when depression has depleted your energy levels. Start with one small change, like reaching out to a friend or starting a gratitude journal. Once you get going, the tasks of self-care and managing symptoms will become easier.
βLife doesnβt make any sense without interdependence. We need each other, and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.β - Erik Erikson

You are not responsible for the reactions of others. If saying no and setting a boundary is best for you in any given situation, that is your best course of action. How others respond to you is their business.
Do the work. But be gentle with yourself. Youβve got this. We can help.
A big congrats to all Pepperdine students ππ
