Did you ever learn about the Watsonville Riots of 1930? There was one casualty - a 22 year old Filipino American named Fermin Tobera - who was shot in the heart and killed. Dozens of Filipino American men were dragged out of their homes and beaten. Men were thrown off a bridge and into a river. A mob tried to burn down a dance club that was frequented by Filipino American men. Violence ensued in many other communities too, including Stockton, San Francisco, San Jose, and other parts in Washington and Oregon.
The reason for all of this? White men were angry at Filipino American men for allegedly “stealing” their jobs and their women.
Immigrants were easy targets then and they still are now.

Measure S isn't a solution to L.A.’s housing woes, it's a childish middle finger to City Hall. Vote no The most important decision Los Angeles voters will make on March 7 is whether to support or oppose Measure S, a slow-growth, anti-development ballot measure cloaked in the language of government reform. It may be tempting to vote yes because the measure is superficially appealing and speaks to many...
