! Dr. Cobos is a physician-scientist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Division of Neuropathology, at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Dr. Cobos studies the basic mechanisms underlying the generation and maintenance of cell diversity in the central nervous system. She is using cell type-specific cellular, molecular and genetic techniques to understand how different populations of neurons and glia contribute to disease pathogenesis in the context of neurodegenerative disorders and brain cancer. The 2016 STOP CANCER Research Career Development Award has helped Dr. Cobos to conduct her research! Thank you, Dr. Cobos, for contributions to the fight to

In 2007, she designed and developed the TRIO B07 study to better understand why some HER2+ breast cancers do not respond to HER2-targeted therapy and to try to understand if there are biological markers (such as proteins) that could be identified to select patients who are most likely to respond to this therapy. Dr. Hurvitz's long-term goal is to increase the measurable cure rate for Stage IV breast cancer from 2-3 to more than 10 percent. Thank you, Dr. Hurvitz, for your efforts in the fight against cancer!
